ARGH 720 miles and my first rock chip....on the top of the bloomin passenger side fender no less.... I nearly passed out.... I spent an hour looking at it in the garage- I think my wife thinks Im gone nuts...she right of course

One thing that bugging me is it sure looks like a very thin coat of paint too.

 

I also have onne in the same spot... I also have a dime size chip on the turn down part of the hood!

it's all good... i freaked out for a second.. well really a couple of days and then thought it's going to happen sooner or later, I can't control rocks... but my thoughts are this just gives me the chance to paint part of my hood flat black.!!!

 

I just got a chip & scratch on the top of the car, just above the windshield, on the drivers side......I nearly went crazy and cried at the same time. There's just nothing you can do I guess....it's going to happen.

I tried using repair paint for a touchup -- a process that took nearly a whole day with all the steps and allowing to dry. It actually looks worse now too!! :bang: However, I've shown the damage to my fiance and friends and they keep assuring me that unless I pointed it out, they would have never even noticed. I guess I do know every inch of the car and even the little things bother me -- comes with the territory of owning one of the best vehicals ever produced!

 

Isn't there a clear film you can put on the leading edges and lower part of the body's to help protect the paint? Does it have any drawbacks? :mellow:

heck, there's a small stonechip on the front of mine too (on the side of the grill) AND IT HASN'T EVEN LEFT THE DEALERSHIP!!!

Everyone's right, it's gonna happen. But I'm also thinking that the paint is pretty thin up there. I read something about that a couple months ago, just people complaining, no fixes.

I travel to cottage country just about every weekend (400 Mi round trip) so I've bought........a Ford bra for it. Yuk, it's ugly but it'll only be on for the travelling and I'd rather have ugly temporarilly than stone chips permanently.

 

Take in to you dealer, I did and it was covered by warrenty, my chips were on the wind shield pillers, roof, r/s fender,frt bumper, and a nice dime sized, down to the metal, chip in the center of the hood. It took about a week for the paint. I drove the car around for another two weeks, then they finally got the side badges in. They put 6 coats of clear coat, and color sanded it down to 4. The factory only uses 2 coats of clear.

 

Getting a bra can help but stone chips can happen anytime. Putting expensive plastic coatings on works but only for the areas covered and I don't like the look. Yes, hard to see but I know it's there and it bugs me!

This stuff works great! You know how you get those nasty paint blobs when you use touch up paint? Well this is a product that removes the blob so that in the end you have a nice smooth finish, can't tell it was ever there. I have been using this stuff for years on my old War-horse and I know it works on chips. Dime sized? Probably not. No, I am not connected in any way. I am just an advocate for products that actually work. Easy to do, best to just read the link if you are interested. You don't have to live with stone chips.

 

Are stone chips really covered by the warrenty?? If so they had better be prepared. I'll be there once a month for the next 30,000 miles.

 

Take it to your dealer,in the end FORD will be the judge. You have nothing to loose, you might as well try. I did . B)

Wow, that worked out great for you. I don't have my 05 yet so I don't have the warranty but I would be very surprised if it covered stone chips. The fact that your dealer fixed it for you anyway is fantastic. I went through this with another car to the point of complaining about a poor factory paint job. Only then, at the risk of a repaint, did they get interested and offer to help. You are right, if you have a bunch of chips, it sure can't hurt to try the dealer.

The first MOD on any new car should always be Paint Protection. I will be having it installed the day after my car arrives. I have had 6 cars done by Armourfend and they are IMO the best on the market. It will cost you ALOT of money but my car is protected at the wheel wells, door sills, door edges, door handle cups where your fingernails scratch the paint, the ENTIRE nose of the car, and even the rear bumper. WWW.ARMOURFENDAMERICA.COM Remember you get what you pay for. Window tinters and car dealerships are NOT the place to get paint protection. Go to a place that only installs paint protection, thats it nothing else.

 

Hey! thanks hellcat6 , so you used this quite a bit ? ... I may actually give this stuff a try. I dont like clear bras either - especially on Black cars...

Yea I'm going to give Langka a shot too. A search on reviews shows good results. I don't like bras or the 3m type products either.

Just follow the directions, easy to use on stone chips. Like I said, if big chunks of paint missing, not sure how it will work. I have a 2001 PT Cruiser and that thing is a combination of a thin paint job and a stone magnet, guess because of the shape. Used Langka quite a few times and was always able to get the repairs to disappear. Worth a look.

 

Is white going to be hard to touch up?
