Apparently the auto shifter holds up very well when you pour coke on it. WTF??

My guess would be that they were testing if the auto shifter would become hard to shift with if coke was poured on it. Yah know checking how sticky it would get.

LOL...

My brother's Merc Tracer had a gift of a quarter Liter of root beer on its auto shifter...I took apart the entire center console to clean that thing up...had to have been there for at least a year. I was quite surprised the thing hadn't shorted out as there was no insulation over the soldered contacts...

No liquid will make it that close to my car...well not for a while at least

My source on the inside says that thanks to this testing, there will be a four-inch square permanent warning label on the dash reading "Ford Motor Company can not guarantee the functionality of the automatic transmission shifter for cola spills greater than 35 milliliters".

Excellent. Since we don't use the metric system in America, I can tell them to shove it because I have no idea how much 35 milliliters is. Muahahaha.

As a side note: Mine's gettin a 5 speed.

Wonder how much better the car would shift if 'synthetic' coke was poured into the shifter?

My mom had an 89 Couger that had coke spilled into the sifter. it ended up tearing the little platic pieces apart that were used as a sliding cover because they stuck together. So, at least they're thinking of these things!

But, I don't ever eat or drink in my car. Had it almost 8 months and never even had food or drink in it!

I'm sure it would shift better, but since it's synthetic, it would cost like $10 for a 2-liter.

Then you'd have all sorts of nut jobs debating whether the synthetic coke should be changed every 5,000 miles, or if it could go 10,000 since it IS synthetic.

I'd love to hear about the crazy/wacky tests that they do....
Lots of thinkin 'what if' scenarios!

"Joe, your job today is to cram icecream down the shifter"
"uh, ok ?!?"

Yeah, but how would any of those plastic shifter bushings hold up to the full onslaught of a spilled go-cup of Jack Daniels sloshing through them
