Front Lower Control Arms

I have a 2008 GT and at the last service the tech said there was movement on both front lower control arms and suggested I replace them. The part number stated was 9R3Z-3078-B and -3079-B for right and left sides. Note that I am experiencing no symptoms here...steering is as tight and precise as ever and no noise from the suspension at any time.

The Ford parts are pretty pricey from the dealer, but I see CJ Ponyparts has part M3075E, an FRPP front LCA set for the GT500 available. Is that a direct replacement for the OEM parts? Is that a good choice (says it has a strengthened ball joint)? I don't take this car to the track, but I spend a fair amount of time on the road (45K miles), so handling and comfort are important. Thanks.

I'd like to know exactly what he meant by movement in the control arms. Is it a ball joint? Are the bushings worn out?

Good question Ryan, I wonder where the movement is coming from?

Unless you're going to an aftermarket part that corrects geometry, you shouldn't ever need to replace the control arms. Now, bushings and ball-joints can wear out and require replacement. If he's telling you to change control arms specifically, he's trying to take your money.

My red '05 went through a pair of front ball joints while still within the 3/36 warranty, I had the dealer fix it just before the warranty expired. My '06 now has about 36k on it and I think the vibration in the front end is the same thing. Ford only sells the ball joints with the control arm. I have heard that the ball joints can be pressed out, and Moog does offer ball joints for these cars.

If you're forced to get new ones, get these:

Oh they can be. But it's a HUGE pain in the ***. I did it myself 2 years ago when I lowered by car (put in Steeda x1 balljoints). Then again, I hear that's the case with all pressed in ball joints
