I don't understand what American car makers think in general. If you go to the Australian Ford web site they have some decent looking cars that would probably do very well here.

The falcon is getting dated and needs a few more SE's to hold them over. Don't count out the next gen platform not finding some use in the US.

Those cars would sell. Even if they still had the same lame powertrain options for base models but had the option to deck them out they'd sell. Its a clean look. I like them

Wikipedia has a pretty good database on the history of the falcon. It's worth a read

Correct. The FPV GT has a non-supercharged version of the GT500 engine.

Geez! That FPV Super Pursuit would be nice!

http://www.fpv.com.au/cars/super-pursuit/overview.aspx

BTW....290Kw & 540 N/m = 389hp & 398 lb/ft
my 300hp 4.6 only puts out 223Kw & 434 N/m

Ford of Europe has some good looking cars too. Some that would immediately help get small car buyers in the doors.

I see four issues with bringing this here.

1) We're cheap.
2) One RWD in Minnesota is more than enough come Winter.
3) Australian cars haven't been hits here. (Capri, GTO)
4) It does nothing to spark my imagination.

I think it must be the CAFE regulations and more probably cost. The car in the first post would most likely be pushing $40K with all the goodies. Most people in that buying bracket would rather buy a huge SUV or a prestige/luxo car. I think it looks far better than the GTO, but if priced similarly I would imagine it would sell just about as well, and thats the problem.
