Heard on Allformustangs.com from a Ford salesman that the Mustang plant is going to showdown from July 4th - July 24th.

Ed (ISELLFORD) said they were closing the plant during the first 2 weeks in July. At least 5 of us on this forum have the build week starting July 18 so it's probably correct. Haven't seen anyone with a build week during the first 2 weeks.

All the Ford plants have a "shutdown" around that time. They do any re-tooling for the new model years, and they do maintenance as needed. My father hauls the trucks from KTP and the Ranger/Explorer plants and he always looks forward to the changeover cuz he'll get a 1-2 weeks layoff/vacation.

AAI(a.k.a. the Mustang plant) will be shut down starting July 2 and going until the 18th, our first day back. Period.

Yep, nothing new, Ford plants shut down every year in July. AAI is still running 10 hour days for the most part to get the cars out.

John, I didn't realize until now that you changed your screen name. I wondered if you were still around. Thanks for the plant info, nothing like first hand information.

I don't get it. How come they are stlil building '05s after they re-tool for the next model year? I would think if they retool for the next model year, they would start making '06's, not continue with the '05s. But Ford said the '06 production wouldn't begin til Aug 8th. Hmm....

How much would they retool? I didn't think there were any changes between '05 and '06 ... except 2 colors and a pony package for the 6er... and wheels, which are outsourced.

My dad and two brothers work on the Ranger plant here in the Twin Cities. If the Mustang plant is anything like here, they shut down for two weeks in July not to retool for the model year, but as summer vacation time for the employees. (At least that's my interpretation.) Perhaps it's in the Union contract?

Oh, it's in the contract, for sure. Some of the maintenace people told me it's when they do the PM's and such, but either way, they ALL shut down for 2 weeks.

As of yesterday, AAI was running a Pony car every 75th vehicle. They are also building an occasional '06 Vert if I understood my husband correctly. They are running the line this Saturday, the last before shutdown. My husband has been working an occasional Sunday as well, but of course the line is not runnng. He's been doing other things along with moving cars from here to there ready to ship. I'll be glad when he's off for two weeks!!

Will they still be shipping cars that have already been built during this time?
