Ford Mustang vs Lotus Elise
Kind of a quick cool story I'm sure all of us have had.
I was at Quaker Steak and Lube (like HOOTERS, except for a car/motorcycle theme instead of ta-ta's) last night and I parked down on the end, next to a curb where nobody would bother my car. I come outside and there's about 12 guys/girls near my car and a Lotus Exige parked one spot away.
I just kind of stood and observed because a few of them were taking pictures. One of the girls referred to the Lotus saying "This is cute, I'd drive this", a guy with her says 'F- that Lotus, I'll take this Mustang, it's bad F'n-A." and a few other guys made similar comments. One guy commented how he's seen this car before and is in love with it. I just stood there and enjoyed my car getting the attention. It's always nice to see others appreciate the car in the same way I do. It's funny, sometimes I feel like I've accomplished the same things as Chip Foose, if only I had his paycheck and budget.
Anywho, just made me feel proud.

I love it....
One of the best street races I ever go into with my 05 was a guy with a Lotus Elise....His choice, not mine....I spanked him thru three gears before the next signal...
When he got up to me, I was trying to be decent, and told him, "You're Lotus is pretty quick".....
His reply...................."Apparently not fast enough"......

And I say that as a Mustang owner.

Actually, John's car is modified in such a way that it would give a close race despite what you might assume. The GT500 can beat it and it is a heavier car with an even heavier front end. His car is lowered and has wide tires. Even with my stock 18" tires I can pull a .9g in a corner without squealing.

On Jeremy Clarkson's "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly" the Stig raced a Lotus Exige SC against a S197 Roush Mustang driven by a racing driver at Willow Springs. The Exige S outhandled the Mustang:

That Lotus has a supercharged 1.8L Toyota 4-banger.

As someone with a totally changed out suspesion, meaning full Saleen suspension, with watts link, as well as most all the Steeda modifications for street and roadcourse, as well as 470rwhp, I can happily say my car has a frightening ability to take corners fast. The hard part is not giving to much gas out of a corner too soon, that is where really well trained drivers (which I am not) really know how to lay it down.
I believe that our cars are never tested fully changed out in the magazines, and are made too look silly because they always pick stock or a pre-set product car, which are hardly complete in their mods. I'd love to see comparisons to fully altered mustangs set and balanced by real course racers. The price point would come to about $25,000 on top of the initial stock car, but still be cheaper than most the cars that the Mustang is compared too, or made fun of in relation to, in the magazines.
Who else has info, opinions and ideas on this, please let me know, Thanks, Erik
