Ford may be losing the battle but may win the war. Look at Ford Mustang sales numbers - Ford is listening to consumers and delivering what they want.

That's 3 months in a row where 2006 sales where greater 2005 sales.

 

Would anyone be able to tell me what is the percentage of sales broken out by color? Across all lines of Mustangs? Like x% Vista Blue, y% Red, etc,,,,

 

The big jump in August 06 Mustang sales were the direct result of the incentives ($1,500 or 0% APR).

 

V10, I was wondering if you would have anything to say about these positive numbers. At this rate 2006 might surpass 2005 for Mustang sales.


2005 numbers came out in Oct 05. So if we hear about them, it should be in the next month. The 2005 #s came from Kzinti on stangsunleashed.com, but I'm not sure whether he will post these #'s this year. Someone at Ford wasn't happy with him posting info for customers' on their car order status, and he has not posted this type of info since.

 

I am pleased to see the very good Mustang August sales #s.

The reason why I have been negative on Mustang sales is that I feel that the prices of Mustangs (especially GTs) have gotten out of control. The MSRP increases and dealers who don't want to discount, don't want to sell under X and those who are still trying to get markups on GTs have put prices out of reach of many Mustang fans.

Comparing actual selling prices of SN95s in their final years (incentives & discounts) to S197 GTs there has been a price increase range of 20% higher.

Once Ford put incentives on the GT, it becomes extremely difficult for any dealer to then try to charge MSRP let alone add a dealer markup, so Mustang prices have finally moved to where they should be.

If Ford continues with some form of incentives (they don't have to be large) and the economy stays good, I have high confidence that Mustang sales for calendar year 2006 will top sales for CY 2005.

 

I'm hoping for big incentives next summer, when I will finally be in the market for a S197 mustang

 

If you remember my previous posts, you'll note that back in May I predicted that Ford would have to add incentives on 06 Mustangs, including GTs, to clear out the rather large inventory of 06s.

I've once again delayed my S197 purchase. Since my Mustang is a toy car ( 3rd car ) I can't justify spending big $$ on one. So instead of a new Mustang, I just bought my wife a 06 Lincoln LS ( my daily driver is an 03 LS ). With total discount and incentives of almost $17K a loaded Lincoln LS came in at about the same price as a loaded Mustang GT coupe. The LS has everything including the DVD NAV system, just too good a deal to pass up.

So on weekends I'll still be driving my old SN-95 GT until next summer when, like you, I'll be looking for a closeout bargain on an 07 GT.

V10 - not to divert a thread but I had an '01 Lincoln LS V8 Sport and it was a great car!! One of the best handling cars I've ever owned and way underapprecited by the public (mainly due to Ford's inept handling of the Lincoln brand). That 3.9L V8 is a precision engine and I really miss the memory telescoping/tilt steering wheel, power seats and mirrors. Hated the auto tranny though - thinks too much. Sure wish Ford would add a telescoping wheel and adjustable pedals to the Mustang - cause when I have my legs/feet right for the clutch/brake - the steering wheel is too far away....

 

I agree the LS is a great car, one of the best vehicles Ford NA every produced. The 06 LS is my 3rd one, had an 00, the 03 I still have and now the 06. I have been told that when the other cars that were supposed to be built off the LS platform got canceled, the bean counters decided that Ford was loosing money on the LS, so they killed all advertising and marketing driving LS sales into the toilet.

The trannie on the 03 is better than the 00 was, improved gear ratios, but it still doen't shift as well as it's should. The trannie was improved again in 05 and finally the 06 LS shifts just about perfectly. ( 05+ Mustang uses the same trannie).

After driving those LSs, I just could not put up with a Mustang as a daily driver, too much of a step down from the LS, which is why I decided to get the 06 LS instead of a leftover 06 Mustang. At this point I may just end up waiting for an updated 09 or 10 Mustang with IRS.

 

V10 - hear you - it took a while to adjust to the "less refinement" of the Mustang - but with the stick and that throaty V8 - I managed Also, my Mustang is my "garage baby" - my '05 only has 9K miles on it - I use my '05 F-150 Lariat as my daily driver. I must say it is quite a bit quieter and smoother riding than my Mustang and is nice enough to use for hauling around clients when I have to....

 

You haven't managed to adjust, your F-150 is your daily driver.

I can't see myself having a Mustang as a daily driver either. My 01 GT is a garage queen, in perfect condition with <29K miles on it, so I have no urgency to replace it with a S197. With today's news, I may wait for a 2008 Bullitt.
