- It's a bird; it's a plane; it's… the Ford GT! The 2005 Ford GT super car is the next best thing to an aircraft with no wings. Built on advanced aerospace materials and manufacturing technology, the Ford GT is much like a fighter aircraft - using an aluminum space frame consisting of complex cast aluminum structures.
- Ford will put the Ford GT to the "flight" test by racing it against various air show aircraft on the runway at the world's largest air show, AirVenture.
- Further demonstrating Ford's connection to aviation, Ford will conduct a land and air formation between the new 2005 Mustang, vintage Mustangs and the aircraft where Mustang got its name: the P-51 Mustang aircraft.
- Ford will conduct a forum on the connection between aerospace and automobiles, tracing the history of how these sister industries have influenced one another - led by Ford's Executive Director of North American Design Peter Horbury.
- Henry Ford not only brought land travel to the masses, but did the same for air travel with the Ford Tri Motor plane. Ford was the world's largest aircraft producer in the 1920s.

I wish I could go. I'm not too far from there at all (I live in Milwaukee, WI). Unfortunately I have a 4 hour shift that day. I wouldn't go though. EAA costs a bundle to get in and I bet I can see the 05 Mustang for free somewhere else.

I'm curious as to what kind of jet they'll race it against. If it's a fighter, the car will lose. I remember watching a race between a Lingenfelter twin turbo Vette and a F-18 Blue Angel -- they did a quarter mile race down the runway, and the car won by a fraction of a second, but the plane trapped quite a bit higher . And the plane would have roared past that car in the next half second or so. So the GT would have to be a bit more powerful to compete with a jet fighter. Now, perhaps against a BD-5J...

I'm lucky I even have a job smart one. I couldn't apply for one until the middle of summer because the school insisted I went to this camp where I was exposed to whooping cough. I didn't get whooping cough, but since I was exposed I had to wear a mask for a week (when I was in social contact) :notnice: ...
