I was gonna buy my '05 Mustang from our local dealer but when I get there I find out that they are putting a extra $4,000. on top of the sticker price!
I don't know what the heck the deal is, but this sure means I'm not gonna be able to buy my car.. I mean I have a friend looking for one but it looks like he won't get one this year..

So it looks like I'm buying a used one but it's cool. The car I'm thinkng of buying is one of those '04 4th Generation Mustings. does anyone has a pic of one of those, if this car is what I think it is I wouldn't mind getting one

Prices are done at the dealership level. MSRP is set by Ford, but a dealer can pretty much do what they want from there in terms of above or below.

As far as what the deal is, the deal is supply and demand, always has, always will.

If anything, blame Ford for making a rockin' car, but the dealerships are jacking the price up since supply can't keep up with demand.

Alot of people on this boards got Mustangs for MSRP and below. Just gotta find a willing dealership.

I've been shopping locally this week to order a 2006 V6 Pony and have not left my desk. These cars aren't even being built yet and I have a best quote so far of Invoice + $800.

Look around the easy way - Internet. Hit every Ford dealer's website within 100 miles with a quote request and see what you get.

Patience, patience. The Stang is out there if you look hard enough and are willing to drive a couple hours to get it. Your looking at buying at the end of MY05 and prior to MY 06 - normally a good time to buy, but not with a car with such a high demand. The 04's are ok imo, but I think you should get the new body style with all the newer technology.

My 2 cents.

While I agree that the price gouging is the result of greedy dealers and not Ford's fault, there is nothing that says Ford can't step in and do something about it. Nissan did it when their dealers tried to charge over MSRP when the 350Z was new.

Do some shopping around, MSRP is pretty easy to get, and lower if you work at it. I went through the internet to talk to 4 different area dealers and got them all down to sticker on what they had in stock (I was looking at GT and V6 verts). V6 coupes can be had for well under sticker.

While I'd never pay over msrp for a car I'll cut the dealers a little slack. After all, when was the last time Ford made a car that so many people wanted? That being said, be patient and look around. Plenty of dealers are treating the new stang as business as usual and discounting them. Don't blame Ford for making a great car that is in high demand.

I have a FORD dealership 2 blocks from my house. They wanted a few grand over MSRP. I drove 15 minutes to another dealer and got the X-Plan Don't blame FORD, blame the greedy dealer.

Edit: Forgot to mention, that same dealer that gave me the x-plan only has 1 GT left until next year. They will not budge from MSRP on that one.

And by the way, in buying a new car there is no such thing as being "overcharged". Either you're willing to pay the price or you're not. As Altoid said, it's about supply and demand. At this point there are still people willing to pay over sticker for Mustangs, so it's tough to negotiate because the demand is outstripping the supply. Especially on GT coupes which are in very high demand.

What's odd to me is that the car has been out for 8 months, and people are saying supply can't keep up with demand, yet on my daily 25 miles trek to work and back, I see only about 6-8 a week. WHERE ARE ALL THESE CARS!?!?!

I used the Rizzo Method to buy my mustang. Got it for a little bit over invoice (before 2 price raises, so it would be about invoice price now.)
If you don't like the price of one dealership, go to a different one. I wrote down the address and ph. # of 15 dealerships withing 50 miles from me. Faxed all of them, got a reply from 11 of them. Went with the one that gave me the best price.

You see I'm buying this car for my mother, she really needs a new car, the car she's driving now is a car that belonged to my grandmother and well it was dumped on to my mother when she became ill and died. so that's why we decied to buy used. and this is something she wanted to do so I think that's what we are doing..

My dealer charges $2,000 over sticker, so the salesman told me to order my V6 vert. I got almost every possible option at cost and paid about 26,700 for the car including tags, tax and all that other stuff.

My brother called the salesman today and added a 5 year/100k warranty but all he said is it was at cost. He also said there will be a bunch of floor mats and windshield wipers in the trunk when I get the car.

I don't feel raped by this dealer, which is exactly how I felt at Honda and Toyota. So far, everything has gone really well.

You want to buy your mom a GT? You are a very gracious son. My guess is that she would be thrilled at having a V6. Plenty of power in that car. And you should have no problems finding a V6 at invoice or below. I know some of the dealers in this area have at least 12 V6 models on the lot sitting waiting for a customer. Shop around.

Well, from what you say, then Ford prices OR dealership prices have nothing to do with this. You just wanted a less expensive car (nothing wrong with that.)

Yea I guess that's the bottom line. We have been plaining to buy this car for the passed year or so, you see I had a '67 but couldn't really drive it because how low you sat in it. So when I heard about the '05s and how they look like the '67s I sold it to raise the money. Back then we were promised that it'll be under $30,000. but that wasn't the case. But when we find out about the extra $4,000. my mom was like "we're mot buying that.."
