flooring the pedal?
my friend wanted to see what my car had so i floored and the car was reving at like 5000rpm, and its an automatic. I was just wondering if this kind of occasional driving is bad for my car and could it cause serious damage?
I'm really hoping this is a not serious question. If it is, sorry man, don't mean to insult you at all, but I just have a hard time believing that is a serious question.
The car is fine, will be fine. You are not punishing the car by flooring the gas. The car is MEANT to go fast, and to be floored. If you keep it floored, it will rev even higher than 5K, like it is suppose to. 6K is redline, it will shift before then, don't worry...that is where it makes the most power. Higher RPM's = more power = good.

no bro no offense taken. i know its a pathetic noob question,
its just that ive never owned a car like this before, and im not going to come in here pretending lik ei know something about stuff I have no idea about. thanks for the input though man.

...and you will never be the same again.

Seriously, no worries on the newb question (better safe than sorry; that said, floor it). I don't know what you've had for vehicle in the past, but I can guarantee you've never had as much fun as you will with this one.
Personally, I love to mash it down and watch the front end (of the car
) rise!
Have fun!

Have fun with it
... don't worry about over reving it, there is an RPM limiter in it that will cut your power down if you go over 6000 RPM for an amount of time. the trans will shift before that to the next gear, so the only time you have to worry about that is in 5th @ 6001 RPM, which means you are doing about 140+
.
To have more fun, get a tune and have the RPM limiter bumped up a few hundred RPM
. Also get the speed limit, limiter removed ( also with a tune)
These engines can handle a lot more than what the factory gives you. you wont hurt anything, unless you hit somthing

someone mentioned the lag- have you done the pedal calibration lately? made night and day difference to mine...
turn key on(dont start)
wait a few seconds till some of the dash lights to go out
slowly press pedal to floor, slowly release, turn key off for a few seconds- done
when I read about it, I thought- yeah, right...but man, does it work
guess this allows the ECM to relearn the TRUE pedal sensor input 'range' and throttle servo feedback range and readjusts itself as needed to make them match...I still have a slight lag at lifting, but huge improvement in normal drivability, and the pedal *almost* feels normal now...

I wonder if you calibrate it (if that actually works), what would happen if you 'short pedal' it a bit instead of putting it all the way to the floor
I'll have to play around with it after work.
As for flooring it, I sometimes push it hard enough to lift my butt off the seat a bit
