It has to start somewhere.
Don't expect Ford to offer any incentives while buyers are still willing to pay MSRP without looking for a better deals.

Didn't ISELLFORD mention about a $500 rebate on the V6s recently? If so, then $1000 is a decent increase in a short period of time.

In our market, the V-6 has a $500 rebate, a $500 perfect match rebate; then a choice of ONE of the "private offers" such as Quarter Horse or Military Appreciation. Normally you can not combine private offers.

There's a dealer here in Sacramento that is offering a $500 rebate on a Legend Lime 2006 Mustang GT. I saw it myself. The sticker price would be $28,495. Still, I paid far less than that for my car a year ago. There must have been a few price bumps since then...

You would be stupid to finance though Ford Motor Credit anyways...a 5 year loan in the 8% range!

Consider there is no pre payment penalty or to refinance the loan with another financial institutuion is always a possible option.

They are coming. I would guess major factory rebates end of this year or middle of next.
Still, there are deals to be had. Maita in Sacramento was offering 3000 off ALL Mustangs (they meant it, I called) though they did not have many GT's in stock.
Naturally, the hardest models to find on the lot are the GT 5spds (if anyone wonders why the model mix still favors the V-6, its because Ford has to sell a certain number of those to break a profit on the overall line-they actually take a loss on every GT they sell). Still, whereas this time last year everyone was paying way over MSRP, now you can get them for that or even below it by a grand or so if you shop carefully.
I do not have to worry for about a year and a half though so happy shopping to all of you...I will be waiting for $3,000 off and large inventories!

Depends on your credit rating.
As 1 Bullitt said you could take the rebate and then pay the loan off the next month. I know someone who did that with another Ford vehicle that had a $2K Ford Credit rebate.
My Lincoln LS is financed through Ford Credit, I got an additional $1,000 rebate to do so (in addition to $4K of other rebates, nationwide, customer loyalty etc.) My interest rate is only 1.9% so it makes no sense to pay the loan off or try to find financing elsewhere.
Sooner or later we'll see rebates (or dealer cash) on GTs. My local dealers have been overloaded with V6 Mustangs for the last 6 months. Now the # of GTs on their lots has dramatically increased over the last 3 months. With the 07's production start less than 2 months away Ford is going to have to do something drastic to clear out all the leftover 06s. Don't forget that there are some dealers who still have 05s sitting on their lots.

One dealer in my area wants $5,000 over MSRP on any GT, he has several on the lot, he also wants $10,000 over MSRP on a Saleen convertible for a total of $75,000. Another dealer said he would not sell me any GT with a 5 speed for less than $35,000 regardless of options on it. Said he sold one to a friend. I told him that his friend must be pretty stupid. He said his "friend is very smart and it's because his friend respects him". Nothing but a bunch of "girl's of ill repute".

Well when I was finacing my Mustang last Month, they told me FMC rates where retarted and could only do 7.49 with a different company for me, with a credit score of 720+
Rates have gone up diramatically in the past couple months. Its hard to find low rates any more...plus it only made a difference of $15 month between keeping the rate that the dealership gave me or going though my credit union, which was offering 5.75% but that would have opened up whole another can of worms that wouldnt be worth my while to switch my current accounts to them

The dealer i got my stang from, i paid MSRP (i know the owner). Has 50 stangs on the lot, about 1/2 are GTs, they are still charging 3,000 over MSRP for GTs. With the 07s coming out, i don't know how they are going to move them.

What is your source for that information? It would seem unlikely that pricing would be designed to permit this to happen. I can see commodity costs for things like steel eroding projected profits, but it doesn't make sense that a product mix of 60% V6s would be priced to offset 40% V8s (excluding the GT500).

I agree with you Tony, I don't know where this mis-information is coming from or how it keeps getting perpetuated.
For the last time the Mustang GT is FAR more profitable than a V6 Mustang.

Saw 2006 GT in today's paper with a $3385 dealer discount.
MSRP $28,375
Chapparral Ford Discount $3,385
Sales Price $24,990
San Antonio paper, Chapparral Ford, in Devine TX, just south of San Antonio
I searched their inventory and found 1 Screaming Yellow Premium Coupe, manual that matches that price.
