First Off-track Excursion
Well, it was bound to happen. Summit Point Main Course with NASA this past weekend. Last event of the season for me, last run of the day, fresh track surface (only a few days old) and it was getting faster all weekend as more rubber got laid down on it.
I came in to turn 10 a little too hot to set up an early pass on an '00 Mustang. The '00 was on R-comps and all the usual suspension and power mods, and we had been swapping leads all weekend.
Lesson learned: back off on the last session! Fatigue is setting in and judgement just isn't what it should be...

Luckily, no damage!

Good recovery, glad there was a sand pit there and not a tire wall!

I think the saying--"If my a$$ had a lump of coal in it, I would have crapped out a diamond" fit the situation.
It all happened so fast that all I could do was to let it settle, then get it back on track before the tire wall hooked in. Once I got back on, THEN the pucker really did set in.
There were plenty of "offs" over the weekend in that turn (and at least one that landed with the spec-Miata on the roof), most likely due to the new track surface. The lead in to that turn is a fair amount faster now, as some of the dips/humps have been smoothed out.

Funny. Very funny. Something tells me all those years of flogging my Jeep in the sand/mud/rocks helped in this situation...
Or in this case, "just a little less brake this time..."
