First of all don’t hurt me, im new. Not only new to the forums but new to mustangs as well, first of all a brief bit of background. My first vehicle was a V6 mustang, I liked the car but as I got into the racing scene I decided that I needed to move on. So I bought a 98 Trans Am with the LS1, I know most of you guys are "ford guys" but please don’t get huffy about me talking about a GM product in here. I loved the power the LS1 produced I think that the engine itself was very well engineered. However I didn’t like the car much, it wasn’t any thing particular, my biggest qualms with it were its length and maneuverability. It had the turning radius of a semi truck *sarcasm*. Any way I got rid of that car because I was feeling the gas crunch. And since I was done with my speed demon days I bought a little Honda Civic rated at 115hp. Big Mistake!!!

I can’t believe how much I miss a little bit of power under my foot. Now for my question, In my good-ole TA I pretty much Stomped on any mustang that came along *not trying to start a war here just stating fact* Ill be the first to admit that a few beat me, but safely I can say that I dominated over pretty much any GT that came my way, even if it had mods. I even beat a cobra or two (don’t know what years they where, but they weren’t 03s or 04s because this was years ago). So to make a long story short, in my search to find power again I test drove an 04 GT, it felt considerably slower than my TA and since I have never really been a huge mustang fan I passed on it. Then I saw the 05 mustang, and I must say that I like it allot. A great blend of the classic and modern era. Here are my questions.

I have heard it will have any where from 260-300hp, that’s a big gap any one know for sure. If it varies which model will have 300hp, im looking at the GT for $25,000ish.

Second question:

No matter what the power is I will probably want to have more. So typically how well does mustangs stock components hold up to say 400hp-ish. I’m thinking a new Stang with a turbo set up runnin around 400 ponies would be a pretty sweet ride. But I don’t want to have to replace the drive train to get it.

Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the board.
click on the timeline and go down to 2005 all the information is there.
Also click on the FAQ sticky at the top of this page.

300-GT V8
260-V6

No definite pricing as yet.
it has been repeated several time with much conjecture
V6-stock under 20k
GT-stock under 25k

have a look around.
there is a lot to learn here

Are you crazy?
V-6 208 HP
V-8 300 HP

THE V6 DOES NOT HAVE 260 hp!

Also, look into the 2003-2004 Mach1 it has 305 HP, and looks SWEET! Plus, rare.

Yes i feel kind of dumb, I found that info out after I posted. Sorry about that.

Second, I was hearing that the V8 would have 260 - 300hp I don’t read into the V6’s.
I like the hood on that Mach1, but it would look even sweeter on a new Stang IMO. After seeing the new ones I don’t think I would get the other body style.

Any body have any knowledge on my second question by any chance?

To get 400hp, you should just buy a Cobra and have the factory warranty backing up the power.

If you get a GT and supercharge it for between $1500 - $4500 (depending on quality, model and professionalism of the installation)), the 300hp figure should jump to about 400hp.

AGAIN, this will NOT be factory backed AND you'll have a car with 30% more power that was NOT designed for 30% more power. This means wear and tear on parts and who knows what other problems down the road that you will have to pay for (your local Ford dealer will be smart and say it's your fault because if you supercharge the engine, it is).

Well, as for your 2nd question, nobody really knows. This is only because the GT is using a new 3-valve engine, and we won't know how well it can handle serious mods.

However, a guy I know modifies Ford products for a living, and has done several 99-04 Mustang GT's that ended up producing in excess of 400 rear-wheel HP safely. The only mods to the tranny were possibly a cooler, and maybe a little bullet-proofing. The other drivetrain components I believe were stock.

I'm sure this engine will hold up at least as well, and will obviously end up producing higher numbers. The 03-04 Cobra blocks are extremely capable of handling 650+ HP with only engine mods and an IRS/live axle swap, I think.

Welcome aboard Script. The GT will be 300hp. Your 2nd question will probably have to wait til SEMA or until someone here gets there hands on one.
