I just read on Autoblog a week or two ago that February was the WORST auto sales month FOR EVERYONE in a long time

EVERYONE took the hit, not just Ford and the Mustang

You've missed the point.

While industry sales were down 5%, Mustang sales were down 28%.

Other than Ford's international endurance racing program I really don't remember anything that was all that great about 1965.
