Per my fleet rep, my redfire GT build date is 11-8-04 and it takes......................

47 minutes to build the car from the time it starts the line.....wow!!!!!!! Not sure if that's good or bad...hahhaha

For those of you that had your order stalled because of the wait for the IUP parts to come in, Ford has enough to complete the orders now....

PS: If anyone has an "IN" at the plant, my luck has it that I will be visiting family in Michigan the very same day my car will be built (not planned...I swear). Can I go to the plant to visit my baby?

Thanks,

Dan

Uhhh...I'm thinking it takes a little more than 47 minutes...LOL

We crank out Crown Vics at one every 50 seconds, but it still takes a car 8 hours to go from bodyshop to final. It might be quicker at AAI as that's a newer plant, but 47 minutes...?

Probably 47 minutes from start to finish. One car comes off the line like every 5 seconds or something.

last time I was on an AAI tour in 2001, when they were building Mazda 626's and Cougars simultaneously, the rep said it takes 3 shifts from the time a car begins production to the time it is completely finished.. i'm guessing a shift is 8 hours, so 24 hours total?

No, they don't allow plant visits.

They finish anywhere from 45-65 cars an hour, so theres that number for you.

Shifts are 10 hrs long, so I would guess a car is done in a single shift.

I would think thats about right, dont forget that its a LONG line. You can figure how many are in the building by taking how long it takes to build the car, and what rate they exit the building.

The big lag is between order and build.

My build finished 10/18 and I picked my car up today, 12 days later, and over 2000 miles from AAI.

Sweet!!! I know about the order lag thing. In retrospect, I would have ordered mine in August instead of September.... I'd be driving it right now :bang:

From: Beautiful New Hampshire!!!
Grantsdale has it about rt, you could say it takes 45-47 min to get a car off the line but to completely be built at AAI, if you take into account bodyshop and paint shop, maybe 10 days.

Maybe not. I ordered mine on 8/17/04 and I'm not going to have it until early to mid December. See my signature.

I was told my car had a build week of 10/25. I was also told that it meant that the car would be built sometime during that work week. i called Ford Customer Relations on the wed (10/27) and was told that the car was built, given the once over qulaity check, and being prepped for shipment. That is when she said it would be an ETD of 11/12-11/19. I may see it a bit sooner, but was told to be patient.

B) Just visited the Georgetown. Toyota plant (Avalons & Camry).
Takes 20 hours to build a car; 10 1/2 hours is in paint/prep, Car rolls off each line evey 55 seconds.
Would imagine AAI is smliar

Ford Customer Relations.... 1-800-392-3673

Keep trying if the first operator is a bit unwilling to help. I kinda told the operator that my dealership wasn't helping me out with the status. It worked.
