Factory Paint flaws?

Hey all,

As I've been going completely insane tring to keep my baby clean, I've been noticing alot of paint defects that were put into the car during the painting process. Like peices of debris got stuck in it and it's there forever. There are a couple on my car. Anyone else spot these same issues?

The wife's Redfire has a spot on the rear bumper near the trunk closure that is a "blem" and looks to be a "missed" spot under the clearcoat.

I had a spec. on the passenger side rear fender. It looked like someone painted over a tiny rock. Also now i found the lip of the hood, closest to the driver/ passenger, is bubbling... I'll have to take it to the dealer. Do you think they would have to repaint the whole hood to make the color blend together since screamming yellow is kinda hard to blend?

I have several blobs at the edge of my doors, trunk lid and hood.....they look like it was daddy duaghter day at the factory and all the kids hid thier gum in those spots before it was painted.

PLUS...My car is Mineral grey.. EVERYWHERE.... that is not very visable my car is green....Under the hood... in the bacvk of the drunk..in the wheel wells... ALL the interior beneath the panels and carpet.

My body man and I spent a week sorting out just the flaws on the outside of the car....I feel you "pain t" brother

Two things in your case:

1) The car is black, so it shows EVERYTHING. Look at it wrong and it scratches.
2) The car is a FORD!!! It's a $27,000 focus. It's not a Lambo, it's not a ferrari, it's not a porsche. It's a "common" car with common paint and common assembly facilities.

I know it's annoying that there may be a small paint flaw, but you're going to get MANY more and worse flaws DRIVING the car.

Besides, I'm sure that no one else will notice them. I think people (including myself) always think that their car is ugly, messed up, or whatever, but to anyone else, it's stunning.

Now, if it was noticeable from 10 feet away with the car completely dirty, then I'd worry about it. But, if not, I'd say to not let it bother you.

Intruder you mean your car was a repainted mineral Grey Stang?

Yeah Black sucks total butt, but I love it.

Next car is Yellow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(cough) Bu****it (Cough)

Nothing looks better than a nice dark color on a car. Black, Blue, Dark Grey, etc

BTW, I've seen MUCH worse brand new on a lot.

A saw a new tan F250, and the top of the driver's door was a slightly different tan than the rest of the truck. Obviously, something happened to the door that required a repaint. But it looked terrible. You could see it from 20 feet away, in any sunlight/shade and at any angle.

usually these spots happen due to bad welts and material being on the car at the factory, they are painted in a factory, which has stuff floating around everywhere

Scrathes drive me f'ing crazy but they happen, nothing you can do is just keep it waxed to try and create enough of a flow of air so everything will flow right over.

Alot of those specs in the paint may be rail dust from transporting. Check tsb for the 05 model year for washing procedure.

I have to chime in to say that I was very impressed with the paint job on my car. No flaws that I could find. And I have yet to have something go wrong with it. But then my car was built mid-week

Something to consider: Our Mustang brothers and sisters that are doing concourse restorations on their 1st and 2nd Gen cars go out of their way to reproduce the "orange peel" effect in their paint that the factory produced. Cars lose points in judging for being "over restored" because the paint job is much better than when the car left the factory.

One small defect/dust spec under the paint about in the middle of the hood - hardly visible. The rest appears to be perfect.

Orange peel for sure,a few blemishes here and there. The day my car was delivered,I left her for stripes. When I brought her home, under garage lights, I noticed a wicked spot on the hood, surrounded by a milky haze. I thought it happened during stripe install. Dealer said it was a factory defect, who knows? They took care of it for the most part.

One Noticeable Blemish

I have what appears to be a ball hair on the top of my rear bumper LOL. Funny thing is, I never noticed it until my mechanic had the car overnight to do a bunch of installs. He coincidentally has a torch red GT also. I think he pulled a switch but how am I gonna prove it? Are ball hairs under the paint a warranty item?

I has some excessive clearcoat on my hood and passenger side door but a little elbow grease with the trusty claybar fixed it.

The paint job on my '05 GT was "ok". The paint job on my '07 GT/CS is fantastic.

There used to be an old saying that Ford spilled more paint than other manufacturers put on their cars. I'm not sure how they do it at Flat Rock, but I know at the old plant they used to have folks lined up ahead of the spray booth sanding imperfections and wiping them down with tack rags. Some of these folks were less motivated than others so it's now surprise that something would get past their watchful eyes. If a car has a signifcant enough defect they'll pull it, fix it and recycle it through the booth. I have heard of cases where a car got two full coats (passes through the booth) in lieu of a quick touch-up.

A lot of Mustangs from AAI have fitment and flaw issues. including this new 07. Note the wheel on a new Edge and the paint flaws on the Shelby
