Have a 2006 Gt on order should be here in a couple of weeks, actually the 19th. I was just wondering what the opinions where about purchasing the extended warranty Plan, and which one...
Thanks..

I'm all for getting the Extended Service Plans. If you do, make sure you get the FORD one, not some aftermarket company. You want the plan that is backed by the manufacturer of your car. When mine comes in, I will be gettnig the 6 (or 7) year, 36,000 mile Premium Care (bumper to bumper) plan, since it will be an extra car. I plan on keeping this car for some time, so to have 7 years covered is a good thing.
I will tell you, some people you may ask will tell you that extended warranties are a waste of money. I work at a Ford Dealer, and have 1st hand knowledge that they are GOLD. Prime example, during a sales meeting, we had our Ford Credit rep in, talking about extended service plans. He gave us a copy of a repair bill from a dealer in Maryland (I'm in PA). It was for a 2000 Taurus, which had 52K on the odometer. The problem, the motor went. The motor was replaced, at a cost of $5,000 or so, including labor. The person had an Ford Extended Service Plan, and only paid the deductable at the time of $50! . Well worth the money for one of these.
My saying to these is, there are literally thousands of moving parts in a car, and with the computer, emissions, and safety systems getting more and more complex, one of these plans can be a lifesaver, when it comes to repair. Labor in my area is well over $80/hr, so a deductable of $100 pays for all the labor, and parts needed. I always tell people who tell me their friend, mechanic, father, whoever are always against extended service plans. I just ask them flat out, if anything goes wrong with your car after the factory warranty runs out, and you don't have any ESP, is your friend, mechanic, father going to pay for the repairs to your car, if it breaks down. They always tell me no. . I say go for it. You won't be sorry. And if you never use it, at least you had peace of mind.

What if you plan on adding a CAI or modify the exhaust? Does/can the dealer say that the extended service plan has been voided? If so, is the whole plan voided or just for problems related to the areas of the car you've modified?

Only buy a Ford warranty. I had one on an 89 BroncoII that I bought my son many years ago. In the time I had the warranty [purchased on a used vehicle], we had the trans replaced, a new head, and alternator. Well worth the $$.

There are 4 plans, powertrain, base care, extra care, and premium care.
You can go up to 7 years and 100,000 with years and mileages in between.

Any Ford dealer can sell you the plan but shop just like you did for the car as dealers will mark these up, sometimes 100%.

Send me a PM if you want a quote.

Andy, that is a good question. From what I have been talking to with the service mamager where I work, a new exhaust won't do anything to the ESP. As for a CAI, I asked him about the factory warranty, and he said it really isn't an issue. So I am taking that to believe the same thing for the extended service plan. I will ask him tomorrow when I see him, and get a better answer.

Great! I will be interested in hearing more about this. I have always bought the extended warranty and it has saved me money everytime. My last Mustang the transmission went out on it, and no I was not racing it, replacement cost $5,000+ I paid %50.

Especially with a more expensive car I would rather have peace of mind as well.

Having gone through a purchase a month ago - let me remind you of a little remembered fact about the extended warranties:

You have all the way until the end of the standard 3 year/36K mile warranty to purchase the extended warranty. PLENTY of time to decide.

I hear there is a $200 inspection fee if you wait til 36k, but not a big deal! Negotiate to get a good deal on the ESP because I paid 1600 for the 75k premium plan and an earlier post someone said they paid 850 :bang: :bang: :bang:

Yeah, we paid $2,000 for the ESP on our Explorer. I'll be shopping around for that $850.00 deal, for sure.

The advantage of getting the warranty now is that you get a free rental car with repairs if the car is kept overnight.

I had a bad injector at about 800 miles and the warranty came in handy.

You should check with fordwarrantys.com. This is a Ford dealer selling actual Ford extended warranties online at a discount. They gave me good service. I bought the premium plan so that the clutch throwout bearing and the radio would be covered (none of the lower plans give this coverage).

I bought the 7 year, 75,000 mile plan. I forget the exact price but think I paid about $1300 for it.

Hey steve, first off, there is NO $200 inspection fee, if you were to buy an ESP just before your vehicle gets to 36,000 miles. I've been selling these for almost 9 years, and have sold plenty of ESP's just before the expiration, and have NEVER charged a "service fee". If a dealer tells you that there is one, all you have to do is call another dealer, as you can buy the plans from ANY Ford dealer. This charge is only a "money maker". Some dealers really suprise me.

Also, yes you can wait to buy the warranty later, but if you plan on financing the car, you can add it to the payment, at the sale, but if you buy it later, you have to pay for it in cash. This is why it's always better to buy it upfront. Plus, some people who say they will get it later, always forget to.

If you do purchase after 12 months or 12,000 miles, there is a surcharge. Also youwill pay whatever the premium is at the time you purchase [and i have never seen the premiums go down from year to year].

Ed you are 100% correct. In my post, I should have stated about the $100 add, when the car is either 12 months old, or over 12K miles. But what I was stating, if a dealer will also charge a $200 service fee, to make sure the car is sound before selling the ESP, this is a bogus deal. I think he was stating that his dealer charges the customer a fee to do a lookover of the car, before the ESP is added. This is what I was miffed about. Thanks for adding the info about the $100 add-on. Hopefully, this post will encourage, not discourage people from getting Ford ESP's .

They are a good deal. I agree, if a dealer wants a fee to inspect the car while it is still under warranty then run the other way.
