Event Data Logging = big brother watching, in a way.
The 2005 Mustang manual states that they now record data from your car in near crash, or crash events.
I just don't feel comfortable with car companies recording data for retrieval. This means that they are storing data about how the car is driven, which in turn gives them more reasons to DENY warranty claims.

No offense, but data logging is NOT there to see if you've abused your car when getting an engine replaced after only 20,000 miles of amazingly agressive driving (er' whatever).
As per their notice, they need a court order to check it. As per logic, this means it's for accidents and crashes. Get over the "big brother" garbage -- it's for safety and for police help when drunk drivers kill people (and then go free a day later). <_<

The crash data can either help or hinder you... If you were driving like an idiot and caused a fatal collision, it could well be a guilty verdict. On the other hand, if you or a family member was harmed because of someone's irresponsible driving, this data can be used as conclusive proof of guilt.
As long as someone drives with some sense of responsiblity, this situation will not become an issue IMO.

I think I have read that it only records the previous 5 seconds or so before the "accident" occurs. Simple answer is don't drive like an idiot. Obey the laws and you have nothing to worry about. Could stink if you wipe out on a track though.
