Escort 9500i radar detector

Well I dropped my Solo S2 and it's dead now. I've had it almost three years so no more warranty.

I'm thinking of getting the new Escort 9500i. Has anyone had any experience with it? Any comments
would be helpful.

I have one. It is sweet. But it is much larger than any other Detector I ever owned.

The GPS thing is cool. it will display your current speed. When it detects radar the first thing that pops up is your current speed.

I think it is pricey though. Not sure it is worth $449.

Many times I am nervous having it on my dashboard in fear that a cop is going to puill up next to me, see the detector and want to bust me even more.

I've seen some setups with it above the mirror, I'd like to mount it in the dash, but Im not sure how to do that.

If your still happy with your Solo S2 you can send it in to Escort for service. It's been a while since I've sent one in but it used to be a flat rate of $75.00 to fix anything that was wrong.

That or step up and by a Valentine 1. That's what I did when my Escort was stolen years ago, and I have been happy ever since.

Years ago there was one out that the sensors mounted in the front and rear grills and a small part mounted in the dash with a shut off switch. Don't remember who made it... Sorry

I don't by any means want to start another "which is best" thread but read one of the most recent issues of Autoweek and you'll see that the V1 came out as best in range and sensitivity. If you want to eliminate false alarms, the Escort is better but overall V1 is the best you can buy. Plus the concealed display fits perfectly between the steering wheel and instrument cluster to give you truly stealh protection. Search for my write up with install pics, it's easy to do. I got flamed at the time I wrote it, but finally an unbiased pub proved me right and proclaimed V1 as still the best of the best. There's no substitute for test results..... Can you tell I love my V1?

same price as always, $399 plus another $40 bucks or so for the concealed display (if you want it). It's the same pricing policy that Mike Valentine had when he owned Escort - never lower the price, and never offer a discount, and offer upgrades to owners whenever a new advance is introduced. What we all get in return is a great detector with excellent resale value and the assurance that you can always upgrade it to the latest technology/circuitry. That said, there hasn't been an upgrade on the V1 in a while yet it's still the best in terms of range and sensitivity.
