ERL Question.

I called the ERL yesterday and got the "your unit will be built the week of Nov 27th". It has been saying that for three weeks. I called this morning and it said "your vehicle has been released from the foreign assembly plant, with an ETA to the dealer 12/14". I thought they built these things in Michigan? whats the deal?

The AutoAlliance International facility at Flat Rock, MI is considered a foreign assembly plant (something to do with part ownership by Mazda or its location in a foreign trade zone). Mazdas are also made at the plant, but I believe they are using a plant-within-a-plant strategy where the product lines and workers are isolated from one another to maintain a distinct strategy and culture for each line.

I was lucky enough to live about 45 min from Flat Rock. They slapped my GT on a truck and shipped it overnight.

Ford classifies the Mustang as a Mazda. The "T" in our VIN's refers to "non-Ford built passenger cars marketed by Ford."
