Unhappy Electrical issues after rain leaked into car after heavy rain

I have a 2005 Ford Mustang gt . We discovered about 2 -3 inches of rain water on the passenger side floorboard of the car after we had heavy rains a few weekend ago. The water had been coming in from under the glove box area. We vacuumed the water out and dried it up as best we could. Finally took into to Ford and they said it was the drain plugs that were blocked up with debris so they cleaned them out. Havnt had a another heavy rain since so not totally sure yet that the leaking issue is solved. However we have noticed that there seems to be some electrical issues now. I'm assuming they are effects due to the rain water leaking in as they only started after the leak, and I do know that the SJB BOARD did get wet. (I tried to dry it up best I could) here are the issues we're having now. If anyone could help With advise or help, tips I would greatly appreciate it. I'm a single mother ,and can not afford a expensive fix. I am somewhat mechanically inclined as well as I have a few friends who could help, if someone could jut point us in the right directions as to what needs to be done to fix these problems.

1) at beginning of car leaking, we noticed car alarm started going off for no apparent reason. It would just randomly start , however it did not sound normal. It would lower in volume then get louder . Also it would slow down and speed up. It honestly sounded like a pitiful alarm. Car would respond to the key fob button being pressed by chirping when pressed, however alarm would continue to Blare. Also tried putting key in the ignition and starting the car, car would start up but alarm would continue to blare. Only way we could turn the alarm off was by disconnecting the battery. We left it disconnected for several weeks to allow everything to dry out as well as kept doors open during the day on the warmer days so it could dry out and air out.

2) stereo doesn't always power up. No previous issues with stereo, only started after leak. Sometimes it will power up then I'll turn off the car and go to start it again and it wouldn't power up. However even when it does power up, there's no volume.

3) power locks not working. When I push the lock and unlock buttons on the door you can hear a tick but door locks themselves do not respond.

4) keyfob- when you push lock or unlock, doors only unlock. Both buttons make car unlock. Worked fine before

Any help to fix these problems would be greatly appreciated

The SJB controls all of those functions. With that many issues I think the only way to fix it is by replacing it. Not sure but then you still might have to take it in for programming the PATS system, but I'm not positive.

How much would something like that cost?

Wow,Shoshone! This post makes me glad my 05 vert's covered for the winter! I'd hate to have to deal with the SJB problem and we have had a LOT of downpours here in Ohio.

That really sucks, but it does sound like you need a new SJB. Unfortunately, I don't think it'll be cheap, but I can't speak from experience.

Try using the search on this forum, and you'll see that this is a common issue. I don't recall which thread it was, but I remember someone trying to get a new SJB and they were unable to get a *new* one. They had to find one in a junkyard, and it was still near $1K altogether to fix it.

Again, that's just what I recall. I don't have the thread handy, so I can't be sure how accurate my recollection is. Good luck to you.

I've had the SJB in my 2005 replaced THREE times!!
The first was due to the water leak and it was done under warranty.
The second one just failed on it's own and cost me about $550.
That one failed after two years and I had it replaced but had to argue with the dealer and escalate it to Ford to get it done under warranty again. That was last year and it took six months of waiting to get the part as they said it was on backorder.
There is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) for a fix to the water leak. It has to do with a seam not being sealed correctly allowing water into the car.I don't know where to find it but I think if you search here you will find it.
Try searching for "water leak" or similar.
Also, there is a drain under the cabin air filter that can get clogged with leaves and debris. It's under the plastic hood cowl at the bottom of the windshield.
Good luck!!
