Some cops are really cool. My first week of having the car, I pulled up next to a state trooper at a light and he told me to let her go when it turned green. When the light turned green and I didn't peel off, he actually sped up I guess to convince me to show me what she had. I stayed with him, but I wasn't about to fly past him. <_<

I think you would have noticed if you were going that much over the speed limit. I know I have to watch my back because everyone and their brother looks at my car, especially the cops. I get followed everywhere and ever since I got my car they setup speed traps a few times a week on a road I take to work. They never did that before, buggers. Oh well, I honk and wave at them as I pass on by. Can't give me a ticket for that.
There is an inappropriate/ illegal use of horn ticket you can get, dont ask me how i know that.

I actually watched a guy get a ticket for honking at a cop. The cop was directing traffic at a big intersection that had some construction and the guy in front of me must have been in a rush and honked at the cop. In the guy's defense, the cop had held our side up for a good bit. But the cop pointed the guy to pull over and while the second cop took over, he walked over to his motorcycle and wrote the guy a ticket.

I think that's a bunch of bull man, I hate cops. They are so naive to the fact that other cars speed around too.

I bet all the officers that are members of the site get a kick out of threads like this. Not like they don't here enough while they give the tickets, not they come home and in their spare time read more complaints. I for one am amused.

Its not like cops actually like getting stuck with speed trap duty listening to people female dog and moan about why they just can't obey the stupid signs to start with. You know you're speeding when you are, if you get busted just shut up and take your medicine.

Last time I got a new car I just told a few officers, "See my new car? You guys all need to remember it so you don't waste your time and mine by pulling me over." I was semi-joking and we all had a good laugh. Funny, I haven't gotten pulled over since...

BINGO. Someone finally willing to be accountable for their actions instead of trying to beat a ticket they deserve.

I have nothing against cops. They are just like everyone else. There are bad seeds. There are plenty of good cops out there... many more than those who are not.

I then told him there was three possible explinations for this discrepency:

1) Your radar gun is out of calibration
2) You don't know how to run it
3) Your a crooked cop.

And then I asked him which one it was. The bastard.
With such a pleasant and respectful attitude, I am so suprised he gave you a ticket.

How come you didn't let her fly when the light changed? Do you really think he would have asked you to do it only to give you a ticket? I seriously doubt that. When I get my car, if that were to ever happen to me.....stay out of my way!

A little legal help...

As an attorney, it's amazing what games cops play.

How many of you have the cop come up to the window and say, "License and registration please...do you know why I stopped you?"

If you respond yes, that is an admission that can be used against you in court. You will lose automatically on that statement alone.

"How fast were you going back there?"

That's a tough question. You don't want to admit if you were going fast, and you don't want to say "I don't know." Both would again be an admission and you'd lose your case for sure. The best response, in my opinion, is "The speed limit."

Also, never argue, answer the officer's questions with answers that are short and to the point. Most people don't know, but officers make notes on the back of their copy of the ticket, right after you leave.

Don't give them anything to write, make the traffic stop as unmemorable as possible. Then, when you get a court date, ask for as many continuances as possible. If you can get your court date 4-5 months from the incident, the officer will have literally written thousands of tickets since then. His memory will be clouded, and he will not be completely sure about what exactly happened.

In my opinion, never ask the calibration questions on the side of the road. Take the ticket and go to court. Nolo Press makes an excellent book on how to beat a traffic ticket, there are a lot of procedural tricks, such as subpoenas for reports and documents, that the police must comply with, if you ask. If they don't, the case can be dismissed!!!

I also have some good tips on beating photo red light cameras, but that's for another post!!!

Fly low and fast, but always below the radar!

I see you just ordered on March 21, do they really think they can deliver it in the time they told you?

i was ticketed on a rural, two-lane road near Seattle for 39 in a 35. the officer was a police officer in transit to his jurisdiction in another town. he got the make and color of the car wrong and listed the infraction as occuring in yet another town with a similar spelling (everything around here ends in an -ish).

figured it was a slam-dunk dismissal. i went to county court. the officer wasn't there. i meekly pointed out the errors on the ticket.

the judge got angry. "Forget the errors. Were you speeding or not?"

i have a hard time lying (at least without a drink or two to plan it out).

$93.

i'll never go to court without a lawyer again.

If he ask's you to punch it so he can see what it does and then gives you a ticket it's called entrapment and that's illegal.

Depends on where you live. A guy I know has received a ticket for honking his horn when it was not an emergency situation.

I heard a story about a cop that when the guy asked if he was trying to meet quota, he replied "I already met quota, I'm writing this one because your a weiner". Probably not true, but funny as heck anyways.

When I am on the highway, and people see cops, EVERYONE hits their brakes, speed limit or not.

Oh, I wasn't worried about him giving me a ticket. I just didn't feel right doing it. Call me chicken or whatever you will, but something didn't feel right about it. Looking back on it, it's one of those things where I say, if I had that over again, I woulda probably hammered it.

I remember one time I got pulled over. It was about 1am, one week after I had just paid a previous ticket (charged with 54 in a 35, but my speedo said i was under 50)... Anyways, I was on cruise at about 38/39 mph and a cop came flying up behind me and pulled me over. he then stated that he had to go 45-50 to "keep up with me" which I simply corrected to "you were going that fast cause you were gaining on me"... He changed his mind and said "Keep your stereo a little quieter"...

I got my licence a year ago so I had to read the little book to learn all the rules and here you are required by law to honk your horn before you pass anyone, and once you honk to show that you are passing they have to allow you to pass safely. I've never seen or heard anybody ever do it.

and what if you give it a little e-brake that doesn't light up your brake lights does it?

No it doesn't, so if you ever want to ditch a cop in the dark get ahead of them turn off all your lights and e-brake when you have too, your have a better chance of getting away before the chopper comes. Not that i would do that though.
