Dumb question about hood latch

What's the story with the yellow rubber piece on the hood latch I see in some pictures? I'm assuming it's a protective cover of some sort. Is it on certain years or an after market piece?

For some odd reason I like how the yellow throws everything off.

It is factory. The main prurpose of it is to help you find the latch in a dark engine compartment.

hmmmm...shouldn't it be a glow in the dark one then? sorry, bad joke.

My '06 didn't have one, neither does my '07...I'm assuming it started with the '08 - or mine were removed.

Okay, I'm done beating a dead horse.

Thats wierd because both my 02 and 06 have it. What i really meant was to make it stand out more not necessarly glow in the dark.

You'll find that anything under the hood that the owner should touch is yellow or has yellow lettering on it. Hood latch lever, dipstick handle, caps for fluids, etc.

That would be the trunk release that's inside the trunk that is glow in the dark (for safety reasons).

So then I should not touch my exhaust manifolds...unless they're yellow.

It's been a long day and I honestly had nothing constructive to add to this thread.
