Drove home today
Just brought my baby home. I had placed an order in early oct., no vin, no updates
from dealer had me going crazy. I looked at dealer inventories on the web last week and found a dealer that had a very similar car, so i paid them a visit last week to find that the car was not there. Dealer told me it could arrive any week. It had the shaker 1000 which i did not really want, they told me they would work with the price. They called up last night and told me my car just came in. I went by this morning took a look at it, gave them a downpayment and went back this evening to pick it up. They sold me the car for 900.00 under MSRP. This dealer stuck to his word. (Southway Ford). They could have very easily sold it at MSRP to someone else. Southway Ford will have my future purchases. Now the great part,
Monday afternoon I get to drive to the dealer I preordered from and watch his jaw
drop when I pull in the parking lot and say you know what I am here for (deposit)
I will post pics soon.

I would be cautious of driving up and then asking for your deposit back. Won't he get ticked off and say no refunds?

I would be interested to know from a saleman here, what the policy is on deposit refunds from ford? Is there anything in writing thats says they can hold back on giving this fellow his deposit?
Radman, my car has IAP
As for the deposit, it is refundable. They have not cashed my check. This dealer knows I am not happy with them, last tuesday they told me they would have a vin number and build date by the end of week, no phone call yet. I am not the only person having problems with this dealer, so they probably expect me to cancel.
It's a little scary having this mustang, people will do weird things to get a look at it.

May I suggest you simply go the dealer where you ordered the car and ask for your deposit back. Don't drive the new one. Don't say anything other than you want your deposit returned. Most likely it's not the dealers fault your car is late, and in any event, burning bridges or embarrasing someone is not the best way to get things done.
GREAT that you have a car man ,....I'm happy for ya B) Just a cautionary note, and I don't know your dealer sit rep....But having ordered only in early october and not having a vin is not really the dealers fault...They probably should not have led you on about having it "In a few days"' type of thing. Lots of people on here have been waiting months and did'nt get vins. Perhaps a bit of discretion on what you say is in order. Again Congrats on the car, you will LIKE it

The Boss Hog
I had my truck in for service at my local dealer and I ended up talking with the sales guy. He said to me "nothing on the car yet, I'm hoping to see it soon". I told him "yea, well, take me off the list". His face changed immediately. He said "did you find one??". Told him yes, and he was good about it. Totally apologized for not being able to get one etc. THEN he said "Please stop by with the car, we're all anxious to see one!". Totally funny. Two nights later I went over with it. They were all outside having a cigerette break. When I pulled up, it was too funny to see 8 Ford sales people's face totally DROP. They all rushed over with all kinds of comments etc. I even took my sales rep for a short cruise. They were all very cool about it.
I'll have to pipe in here too. I've ordered two cars in my life ('94 and '99 Mustangs). I don't remember checking for VINs but the first one in 1994 was a long diffucult wait and from the day I ordered to pick-up it was seven weeks.
In 1999 I ordered again and the dealer said it should take about four weeks or so. I knew better and lo and behold seven weeks later I had a '99. I'm sure it would be quite difficult to go down and order one now and expect it in seven weeks given all the action going on right now.
Your salesman may or may not be a Mustang enthusiast. He may be a survival enthusiast and he hopes he can keep selling cars/trucks so he can survive. The only thing you can say is that some of them foolishly predict when these cars will arrive. That's probably in their training or copying what the other salesman tell them to say to potential buyers.
Congrats on the 2005 and just enjoy yourself!

I will go in tommorow for my refund. I will have no choice but to drive the 05 mustang. As far as the dealer, maybe its not their fault. A lady I work with ordered hers in August, was told it was built 5 weeks ago, after waiting for her car to arrive for a couple weeks she met with the general manager and found out it has not been built. I have a feeling this dealer has an allocation problem or more, and they should have been upfront when order's were placed. I did not have a problem waiting for the car, all I ask is the salesman to be honest.
My new Mustang is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!! The car is alot more than I expected. I let 3 people drive it today and they were all very impressed with this vehicle
