Does my salesman know anything?
#1
Long time lurker, but newb at posting. I am looking to upgrade my piece of pooh olds 88 to 2006 v6 stang with the pony package. I had checked out the site and decided that the pony package was worth the upgrades.
I went to the dealer and test drove one. When I got back to the dealer we were discussing the pony package. I mentioned that I thought it had the upgraded suspension. He told me that it didn't it just was an appearance and wheel package.
I had checked out the specs on the pony package on here and then compared it to what my dealer and ford mo. co. website said about the package. The website( build and price) made no mention of any suspension upgrades.
So I am wondering, what exactly does the pony package give the V6 model? Is my dealer just misinformed?
Any info about this would be appreciated. Thanks!

The major addition for 2006 is the V6 Pony Package. With an MSRP of $1,195, the Pony Package, which is available on V6 coupe and convertible, comes standard with a new 1965 Mustang GT-inspired grille which features a traditional corral surrounding the pony and horizontal bars which lead to small chrome-trimmed grille-mounted foglamps. The Pony is the first six-cylinder Mustang in the 40+ year history of the car to come standard with 17" wheels--the same "Bullitt" wheels that were standard on the 2005 Mustang GT. The wheels, outfitted with a unique tri-bar Pony center cap, are wrapped in P235/55ZR 17-inch tires. The Pony has a new thin-thick-thin rocker panel tape stripe with "MUSTANG" lettering on the door and comes standard with a rear spoiler and GT-inspired suspension modifications featuring a larger front stabilizer bar, the addition of a rear stabilizer bar, 4-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system (ABS) and traction control.

Thank you! I had searched here but couldn't really narrow it down. I knew I read it before but just wanted to make sure. Stupid dealers, making me question everything I read here.
Well, it looks like an 06 V6 is in my future. Thanks again

Been driving my GT for almost 6 months now. These are great cars.
I have the pony mats in for the winter (in black) to keep the red ones from getting too gross. The reds will go back in for the late spring and summer.
I suspect you are gonna love your Mustang.

Its got it. A lot of dealers get hardly any pony packages so its not like common knowledge. I am probably the only salesperson at my dealer that knows it does. You need to remember Ford sells more then Mustangs. I hear this 'more then the salesperson crap all the time. But could you spec out the proper F550 frame/powertrain combo and figure out the right upfit body conversion if a landscaper told you the average cubic yards they cary and the dimentions of the chipper they are using?-QUICK he's on his lunch break and needs a proposal to bring to his boss who works right across from another Ford dealer.

Search and read this forum. In no time you will know more than your salesman.

I think my salesman handled questions well-I don't know,Cheryl, we can't keep these 05GTs on the lot long enough for me to check them out, let's go look that up! He never pretended to know what he didn't and he never made me feel stupid for asking.

You have to be carefull in sales, you oversell some feature and either there won't be one available, or it will be the 'wrong' one for them and now its like you were down on anything without it. Sometimes you overinform and confuse the average client with stuff they could care less about it. So most 'selling' is done on the fly in the lot with the client guiding you to what they like or want for themselves. You never sell them a car based on what YOU like or would buy alone. You go to a honda dealer and the kid there is all about the SI CIVIC, DUDE, it would drive you nuts looking for a CRV. Once in a while you will get a client that knows EXACTLY what they want or knows a lot about the car and you let them tell you and you help them find it. Most veteran salespeople are busy selling and not studying the product line for this reason. The top guys at any dealership typically do not know much about the cars at all.
The best salespeople are the ones that simply care about making sure you are happy with your purchase, wether they had to look up every detail question or not. You'll know it when you meet them. Ms Johnsons green taurus wagon is just as important to her as bob's new Saleen, or Apple constructions new F750 dump body.

It does make the car a totally different ride for about $400 once you take out the cost of ABS
I just like razzin people here especially on 'dealer' threads, so I will throw a little 'tude in on people and spice up a few threads. I have actually NEVER tried to actively sell a car here on this site, nor care to do so, and look at my member # I still remember getting in trouble here for exploiting the zoom power of the NAIAS convention camera in 2004 on black tie night and certain women's dresses. I do this for fun. Funny enough, I know of at least 2 people on this site that came in and bought 'stangs from one of the LEAST knowledgable(but good) salesmen I have ever met. I think the last time I went in 'ask a saleperson' is when I had to change my adress back to the dealer I'm back at again. But if someone ever pm's me with a 'real' question I always give them the real answer, even if they're 2500 miles away.

We ordered our Pony back in september of 05.. They didnt' even have the updated order sheets yet..
Our salesman did pretty good.. and we got it in 6 weeks..
He had two problems.. 1, he didn't hvae an example of what tungton metallic was (that was an 06 color, and had not recieved any 06s yet)..
2nd, He got the pony tribar caps confused with the spinners.. And the way the catalog was worded, so was I.. So, we didn't get the spinners we wanted (kinda good, I like the aftermarket ones that are harder to take off)..
oh yea, 3rd problem, finance person (the one that tries to sell you the fancy undercoating etc), said the alarms they put on had x,y,z and that the factory one didn't have any of those.. Well, the active anti theft on the mustang has everything theirs had, except window roll up (which we don't need)
We do love the look of the pony v6.. and it handles great, but it does need a traction device in the rear diff, I keep getting 1 wheel spins (when I slide around a corner).. and I really want 3.73 for more oomph

Wow torch red pony package looks great. I think I've seen about 4 other Pony Packages on the road. But if you buy a 2006+ V6, I think Pony Package is a must.

Great idea on pony pkg! I have had mine for a month now and can`t beleive the way it handles. All V6`s should come standard with it. Remember it does not include traction-lok.
