I just rented a Crown Vic (Hertz Sled) Man do I miss the old style tilt wheel. Who at Ford decided to give the New Mustang the Japanese style tilt???????????

My new F150 also has the Mazda type wheel. Is it 10 bucks cheaper or what?

Does anyone else think the Tilt wheel is worthless?

I like the new ones I HATED the old fairmont column with the ball and socket type tilt. The column should move so the controls move appropriately with the wheel. Ford has better and more designs of steering wheels then any other company. They spend tons of bucks to make them different in each model.

Fairmont???????????

The last style of Wheel. I rented a 2006 Crown Vic and it has the small lever you pull forward and the wheel tilts compfortably. You don't have to act like you are pulling the hood release and dismantling the dash to move it. Pleeeeze.

Fairmont!

I have the older style in my Mustang, and my wifes F150 has the new style. I don't think one is anymore difficult to set then the other.

In all honestly, I prefer the new style because it allows a more precise setting. Plus, once its set, how often do you really change it anyway?

Tilt Steering Wheels are not what they were 25 years ago. Too much crap runs thru them to have much range.

I love the tilt in this car. I use it every time i get in and out of the car so i don't bang my knees on the wheel. Only downside is that it doesn't telescope like a jetta i had one time. otherwise, excellent!

I also enjoy how the seat reclines all the way back unlike the sn95..I love taking naps in my car or sleeping in it at the races in daytona!

One thing you have to understand is why tilt wheels move as they do today as differently as in the past. It has to do with occupant placement for air bag deployment. The old say ball and socket design would have deployed over the drivers head if set in the upper most position . So just be glad that you are asured that design of current operation is with your crash safety in mind.

 I hit my knee on the **** all the time. Boy that hurts......

I just cant seem to get used to using it. My former car, Lincoln LS, had an automatic one. You open the door and it tilted up, insert the key and it goes back to your favorite setting. Now that would be nice in the 05 GT's......

Yes. The old style tilt wheel is 100 times better than the new stuff. I've never been able to get as comfortable in the '05 as either one of my 88's. I really miss those cars.

what do you think the column in the 2004 mustang was from?

The tilt axis on the old style is not proper, to 'raise' the wheel, it tilts out and away like a bus. Someone also brought up the airbag thing, but the same concept follows for ergonomics, the wheel angle remains virtually the same for different height drivers. A lot of vehicles though still have the old style tilt with airbags(think 2004 mustang as one of em)
