Do hit the underside of your car when you go over speedbumps?

I've scraped the underside of my 05 GT several times going over speedbumps and it ain't even lowered yet.

Guess I was going too fast - lol.

Anyhow, does that happen to you and do you get concerned you damaged something/

Only scraped the underside once that I remember. I was pulling out of Dairy Queen and the curb was huge!! When my front wheels came off the curb, the underside scraped a little. I think it was probably an exhaust pipe from the sounds of it...no biggie.

I've scraped the front fascia a few times pulling into the driveway. Only minor scrapes on the bottom of it though, barely visible unless you look for it.

In my lowered 05 I banged and scraped the underside numerous times on speed bumps, speed humps, and driveways...

So far in my 08 I've not yet had that pleasure!

I've done it more times than I can count. The underside has some nice long deep screatches in it. Hasn't caused any problems, although I'm "trying" to be more careful.

I try to avoid speedbumps with the Stang. In my Vic, I don't slow down for speed bumps. The shocks will take care of it.

Mine's lowered and I scrape more often than I want (want: 0). The large speed "humps" are no issue if I take them at the rated speed. It's those short, high speed bumps that I hate. I have to crawl over them because they toss the front of the car up and it slams back down if I am going more than a mile per hour or so.

The ones I know about, I generally avoid if possible. There are several businesses I haven't visited in a couple of years because they have those nasty speed bumps in their parking lots. Oh well. There loss.

I scrape the tire shredders when I leave the garage at work, not a good sound. I try to go slow but I'm also nervous about rolling backwards on the shredders.

I try to avoid if at all possible. If the underneath hits, the chin spoiler probably hit first.

Scraping

I was discussing this issue with someone about being lowered lower than the standard 1" to 1 1/8th" drop for the Saleen springs or the standard Steeda springs. I was told that there are or is a bump guard that can be removed, and that is what is hitting, as I was on too low of springs(eibabh pro kit #1) and went to the Saleen suspension.

I have no idea if what's really scraping is only the bump gaurds or actual stuff under the car. I have no issues with this with the Saleen springs, as they are great performing, comfortable, and clearly not allowing my car to bottom out as the softer stock springs or lower eibach spring allow. Erik

I have stock suspension, only time I scrape a speedbump with the underside is if I have 3 other people in the car. if by myself, it clears fine

In my case, I know for a fact that I have been hitting the underside of the chassis. More specifically, I have scratch/scrap marks on the bottom of my K member and I have scrap marks on the heads of a few bolts. The worse bolt is the one that holds the plastic fuel filter cover in place. I've also scraped the plastic insert fasteners that attach the GT size valances on.

I can also say I do not remember seeing anything that remotely looked like a "bump guard". In any case, I'm hitting more than that, so it wouldn't do me any good.

I was just thinking the other day they need to regulate these ****ed things and set minimum widths, maximum heights and maximum angles on these things for the speed zone the bump is in.

For me to be saying "there aught to be a law!", you KNOW there is a problem!!!

I take it REAL SLOW when I enter a parking lot with speed bumps. With the longtube headers, I don't want to ding them up underneath. So far no issues with any scraping. When you go too fast, the car bottoms out a bit. Just take it easy and the car will be fine.

Yea, I was in a hurry and I went way to fast over a speed bump. My pony got slammed onto the speed bump somewhere between the front and rear tires. It seems to be OK so no biggie.

That only works if the bloody speed mountain is SHORTER than the lowest portion of your car! There is one place here in town that has several speed mountains that are at least 1/4" to 1/2" TALLER than the minimum ground clearance on my car.

The first (and only) time I went over those bas****s, I CRAWLED (as in over 10 seconds just to get my front wheels over it!) and I STILL scrapped a couple of feet behind the front wheels.

I was so ****ed that it took everything I had not to go get my buddies skid steer and rip those ****ed things out myself!

My headers and cats on the H-pipe scratch over tiny stuff. But that's because of the lowered stance and shorter than stock tires.
