Difference between 05-08 S197 models

Been trying to find this answer through google but most of the results are

"Mustang GT vs ________"

Ha!

Used to be a proud owner for a 2007 GT until times got tough and had to sell it. Now I'm back and looking to pick up where I left off(Or a 350z, STI)

Anyone have a link to the information I'm looking for?

Thanks!

Are you looking for the year-to-year changes between the S197 models, and only from 05-08 (ignoring 09)?

This covers most changes from 05-08. The 09's were very similar to 2008.

As I recollect:

Dec 07 was a big improvement where Ford deployed the new heads for the 2008 4.6L3V's to fix the problematic 2 piece plug of the 05-07 head design.

2008/09 GT pretty much the same as 05-07, but the 08 Bullitt brought a number of performance enhancements. These enhancements stayed unique to Bullitt thru 09, but the 2010 GT received some of these plus even better handling & interior. And of course the 10 has the styling changes.

So the 05-07 GT's are pretty much the same,
The 08-09 GT's are pretty much the same with the improvement in the heads and 09 offered the glass roof option. Keep in mind the 09 was a short production year as they retooled for the 10.

These excerpts show the upgrades came with the 10 GT, not the 09 GT:

Beneath the fancy new skin of the 2010 Mustang GT is a chassis and V-8 powertrain pulled directly from the 2008 Bullitt. Frank, you see, was a driven man, one who would rather use the GT's 315 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque for chasing hooligans, not showing off like one.

Good thing the 2010 Mustang GT is quick. It hits 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, a tenth quicker than the previous-generation GT. The quarter mile arrives in 13.7 seconds at 103.7 mph, two tenths quicker and 2 mph faster than the 2008 GT we tested in December 2007.

Below is the official press release courtesy of Ford Motor Company filled with information and specifications of the 2009 Ford Mustang. New additions include the first ever factory installed glass roof option, ambient lighting, satin aluminum intrument panel trim, and Sirius Satellite Radio.

The Best of New, Heritage
Cleverly combining modern technology with Mustang heritage is a signature of the 2010 model, in terms of both design and engineering.

"All of the Bullitt elements are the base foundation of the GT," said Randle, noting engine and chassis improvements. "We also applied some improvements gained from Mustang racing. We're learning constantly and always giving that to the customer on the base car."

The wheel-and-tire combinations are 1 inch bigger across the board, ranging from 17 to 19 inches, which helps improve handling and braking. The shocks have been retuned on all models as well.

"We adjusted the springs, stabilizer bars and shocks to better balance the ride, steering and handling for all models, which results in a more engaging driving experience," adds Mustang Vehicle Engineering manager Tom Barnes. "The 2010 Ford Mustangs feel more controlled for steering and handling, yet retain a good ride balance."

The 2010 Mustang 4.6-liter V-8 benefits from innovations from the popular Bullitt model. Power has increased to 315 horsepower.

"It runs on regular gasoline, but if you put in premium it has adaptive calibration that will give you even better mid-range torque," Barnes said, adding that Easy Fuel™, Ford's innovative capless fuel system, is standard on all models.

AdvanceTrac™ Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is now standard and complements Mustang's all-speed traction control and anti-lock braking system (ABS).

The Ford team uses advances gained through programs such as the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge and special editions to improve the 2010 Mustang.

Improvements inspired by the Bullitt program, for instance, are seen on the genuine polished-aluminum manual transmission **** and leather-wrapped shift ****, which support a short-throw, performance-based shifter originally launched on the feature car.

Horsepower gains on the V-8 are achieved by the cold-air induction system pioneered through Ford Racing Technology. The intake is tucked behind the driver-side headlamp, mounted in an air box specific to the Mustang. Extensive sealing modifications ensure cold air from the front of the Mustang feed the engine.

A true ram-air system offered on a base GT vehicle is a first for Mustang.

"That means more horsepower and more torque in all driving conditions," Randle said.

The redline for the V-8 is increased 250 rpm to 6,500, and revised calibration ensures the customer fully feels these changes.

Both the V-6 and V-8 engines have larger exhaust tips, growing to 3 and 3 ½ inches, respectively, up ½ inch from the previous model. The V-8 exhaust features polished tips.

"The 2010 Mustang runs great on regular fuel, and that is where we quote our peak numbers, but we also have a great dual-adaptive knock calibration that allows the 2010 Mustang to run on regular fuel as well as premium fuel, and the system figures it out itself," said powertrain supervisor Chris Roxin. "It also improves the torque of the engine in the low- to mid-rpm range."

We adjusted the springs, stabilizer bars and shocks to better balance the ride, steering and handling for all models, which results in a more engaging driving experience," said Vehicle Engineering Manager Tom Barnes. "The 2010 Mustangs feel more controlled for steering and handling, yet retain a good ride balance."

Tires are increased by an inch across the Mustang line, with 17-inch tires standard on the V-6 and 18-inch tires standard on the V-8. A 19-inch Pirelli Summer tire is late available as an option for those seeking higher performance.

The proven chassis from the Bullitt series serves as the base for the GT. A tower-to-tower brace pioneered on the Bullitt lends additional torsional and lateral stiffness to the chassis to improve cornering for those selecting the 19-inch tire.

As always, extensive option packages are available for the 2010 Mustang. Options include:

GT Track Package I (manual only)
Performance front brake pads
3.73 axle ratio
Recalibrated AdvanceTrac

GT Track Package II (manual only, late availability)
Performance front/rear brake pads
GT500 Sta-Bars and rear lower control arms
Retuned struts and shocks
19-inch Pirelli Summer tires
3.73 axle ratio with carbon plates in the differential
Recalibrated AdvanceTrac, traction control and anti-lock brakes

"With the new tires, the new shock tuning, some new spring setups and new stabilizer bars, 2010 Mustang customers will get an even better driving experience," Barnes said.

the 07+ cars are marginally stronger due to the introduction of the GT500 (the trans tunnel was the key item IIRC).

Yeah, some where in the 07 production run they started adding A-arm braces to the coupes along with better welds and afew other chassis enhancements.

The spark plug fix didn't come till later in the 08 production run, as mine is an 08 and has the old style plugs.

I'm sure there are afew other changes, but I cannot recall them atm.

My 08 Bullitt was built in Jan 08 and has the new plugs but I read on several threads the change was Dec 07. The brown plug boot is the new head/plugs, the black boot the old head/plugs.

the 07 front end was stiffened up to hold the weight of the GT500 engine. The 07 and later cars are heavier then the 05-06 cars by about 50lbs.
