Detonation question

Here is the deal. I recently was driving out of a parking lot and floored it while in 1st gear. I noticed the rpm's get to about 4k and then I saw alittle puff of dark smoke out of the exhaust and also heard some small pinging from the engine bay. First reaction was probably bad gas. Btw, I was using a 93 tune.

Then I started having the same problems as other members here with the car stalling out & dropping rpms below 750. I removed & cleaned the TB and still was having stall problems. I have just replaced the TPS and the stalling has gone away.

Question is: Could the bad TPS be the cause of the detonation. The car has never had any pinging before. Could the pinging have been a prelude to the TPS going bad?

Not sure if I want to try & see if the pinging comes back.

Any suggestions

Yes if it was faulty and not reading correctly it could cause this issue.
