Angry Destroyed my tire :(

My rear driver side tire was shredded today by running over a ½ inch iron rod and driving a mile while flat. No TPMS and bad hangover = stupid crap like this.
My question is: should I buy just 1 new tire or 2 new rear tires? Or do I need to get 4 new ones? My current tires have 8,000 miles on them and were cross rotated at 6,000 miles. My tires are the stock Perilli p-zero’s. I don’t burnout much and they look to have healthy treads. One final consideration is that my daily commute consists of 15 mins at 100 MPH on the highway.
Cheers,
Mike

If I only buy 1 will it cause problems with the traction control and the rear differential ?

Replace all 4 and go a little bigger... maybe: 245/55-17, 255/55-17, or 255/50-17(all three will fit nicely, the former being my choice)- just an excuse I would use... lol .

The stock Pirelli's wear like iron, I really doubt your current tires are worn after 8k miles. You could just replace one without any issues.

I wish. But I'm strapped for cash now. Which is why I was trying to get away with changing just 1. Would that cause handling issues?

If I change just 1, Is it better to have the mismatched tires on the front or back?

If you buy another Pirelli it won't matter, but if you buy a different brand then you should replace both tires on that axle.

I'm buying the exact same P235/55ZR17 98W tire. So I'll end up with a brand new RL tire and an 8000 mile old RR tire. Would it not be better to have two older tires at the back?

It won't matter if it's on the front or back because the overall diameter of the new tire won't be that much different from the old tire. If you had 20k miles on the old tires then you would want to keep old tires in the back.

You are only talking probably 2-4/32 of an inch difference in diameter of the tire. Not enough to matter for T/C or the limited slip diff. Just get one tire and save some $$, put it on the rear. It will be fine.

Pardon my ignorance, but you can put a wider tire on the stock 17" rims?

Yah its true. One of the rare pleasures of living in the middle east. Oh and $0.70/gallon gas is lovely.

That’s true, well kind of.. I'm in Kuwait, near Dubai, same fine *** roads though. The highway I take to work is 8 lanes wide each direction, very light traffic, no speed limit, with plenty of fine *** cars to play with on the way. The roads here are not nearly as long as the Autobahn, but they are wider and better maintained, and are all brightly lit at night.

Just get 1 tire. You've worn off 10% max.

Have fun and keep our eye on the road

How do you cross rotate directional tires? They should go front to back, back to front. That is unless you tike the tires off and have them reinstalled.
