In case anyone was curious, the issue where air comes out the defroster vent even though only the floor is selected is still an issue in the '06's. It doesn't look like Ford figured out what the problem is.

 

According to FORD this is not an issue. This is how the system is suppose to work.

 

I guess I'm numb to that response. I heard it from my dealership on the F150 vibration until I pulled out the TSB and showed them. Only then would they look into it.

 

Well if you ever find a TSB on the ventilation "issue" with the mustang please let me know. People have been talking about this for over a year now and FORD has said the same thing everytime, the system was designed that way to prevent the windows from fogging up.

 

My mistake. I remembering reading the threads about customer complaints, but I didn't remember Ford saying that it was designed that way to keep the windows from fogging. Thanks for explaining!

 

all i kno is i can be driving down the highway with the windows open and my window fogs up both rear and front. i gotta keep it on defrost 24/7

 

So I guess our feet are supposed to freeze off while the windows are kept clear even if they aren't fogged up. Does Ford think we are not intelligent enough to turn on the defroster when it is needed?

 

Well, whether Ford considers it a problem or not, I was just letting the '05 folks know that it is the same in the '06.

However, I knew it was a sore topic in '05....

 

Sorry to rehatch this old thread, there is a TSB stating the the engineers are aware of this and not to try to fix it until a proper fix is available.

 

Ive noticed that the bottom of my rear window is always moist. I wonder if this is the same thing or is my rear window seal bad?

 

I just noticed this yesterday. If that is the way it was designed, why would they have the same amount of air comming from the defroster on both the heater only, and the defroster / heater settings.

I woudln't be bad if it was just a little bit of air comming out of the defrsoter, but the problem is, on the floor only setting, about 25 percent of the air goes to the floor ,and the other 75 goes to the defroster.

 

My dealer at first agreed that there was a problem (the showroom model didn't have the problem) and attempted to fix it by replacing the controller head and the vaccum motor assembly. They the told me about the TSB saying that Ford engineering knew of the problem and to not attempt repair. The TSB has since disappeared :scratch:.

The current store I've got is that "it is working within specifications". I asked for a copy of the specification to which I was told by Ford's "Customer Satisfaction Centre" that I didn't buy my car from Ford Canada - I bought it from the dealer who bought it from them and I needed to deal with the dealership directly for all service related items.

I love the car but I'm in the market for a good pair of electric hunting socks.

 

My dealer says that it is just designed that way. It's suppose to blow 80% out the floor and 20% out of the defrosters. They did not give an exact reason why.

 

I think it is more like 20% on the floor and 80% out the defroster.

That is horsecrap. Are you all telling me that Ford will not fix this?

I don't get any air to the floor area. Only defrosters. If they do not fix, they better be able to support their position because it will go to arbitration with me.

 

If I hold my hand under center strg column I can feel more air distributed to the floor when switched from floor/defrost mode to just floor mode. There is also a small reduction of air flow to the windshield vents. Some of the problem may be caused by the location of the floor outlet tube dumping to the center left of the floor.

I had a similar problem with my 2000 dodge dakota not distributing the air properly over the floor. There was a tech bulletin that required drilling a 3/4 inch hole through the right side of the floor duct which then helped direct more heat to the right foot area. Maybe Ford will come up with a better distribution duct later which might be a cheap fix. I can't see them redesigning the heater box, thereby changing the defrost/floor air ratio, as that would probably be a very expensive tsb repair.

 

I think you need to calm down. If you are not getting any air at "floor position" then yes, they need to fix that. Your issue is completely different than the discussion about getting "some" air out of the defroster when you have selected the floor position.

 

Hump and I was told when I asked why when I start it up and if the fan is on /heater does the window fog up a bit and go , I was told that is is normal and part of the way the car gets rid of moisture in the car ? looks like adding to me so I always vent with windows down a while to get it out. kinda smells like the A/C even though I never use it ?

 

I just cut a piece of an old plastic quart oil container, formed and taped it to the drivers floor duct outlet to direct air flow more towards the pedals. It does throw a little more air to the floor but there's obviously a serious design flaw to the distribution ratio's here. Hope Ford comes up with a fix soon. I'm driving this all winter and the minus 20's to 40's are here now. This issue will way heavily on whether or not to keep this car.
