I hear people talk all of the time about JOB1 and I realize this is the starting date of production.( September 7, 2004) I am a little confused as to just what JOB1 really means.

People have said things like, "I ordered my Mustang early and I sure hope I get my car in JOB1". My dealer said, "don't worry your car is the second Mustang we have ordered and it will for sure be built JOB1".

Based on these statements I have assumed that in addition to being the start date of building production cars, JOB1 is a predetermined number of cars or a predetermined time frame for a number of cars to be built in a "first run".

Is this correct? If so, how many cars or how long is the time frame?

Job 1 is the buildup all the way up to being ready for production... Job 2 is when cars actually start to be produced.

You've answered your own question.

As far as when you get your car gets built, there are lots of factors involving priorities of orders, plant efficiency, sequence of order and dates, delays, unforseen road blocks, and some more factors which I am sure other guys will provide. Figure on some time befor the year ends.

there is no difference between job1 and job2 other than the rate at which cars are produced, correct? i know they're putting together cars right now to get the bugs out, so is job1 more of a 'get everyone framiliar with the process' time, and job2 is 'now we know what we're doing, lets roll 'em off the line'?

sorry if the question sounds dumb...just curious.

This is the first time I've ever heard of JOB 2.

I have a related question regarding the build date. Is this the day the car is fully assembled and rolled out of the plant ready for shipping ? Or is is the day they start assembly ? So many questions, so much time. B)

I only asked the question because I always hear Job 1 talked about in so many different ways I thought it had to mean more than just start time.???

I also wonder how many cars are "special orders" as of today?

I'm in the same boat as you. This place is fantastic for keeping us from going nuts. The only problem is I am going to wear out my mouse and eyes from all the clicking and reading

I thought Job2 were mid year changes

JOB1 was when the car is officially being produced for that model year.
JOB2 may be later in the year and something may be added etc, or fixed.

Job2 can also relate to a change in the car. Like when the Sport Trac first came out.. a Metalic Orange color was available during job one... but they had some problems with the paint, got rid of it and in Job 2 they offered silver instead

Its possible for a Job3, Job4, etc to occur, but I can't think of times when this has happened.

I'm guessing the Ford GT will have a Job 3, since I'm sure there will be times when there are cars waiting on the lot and they will have to stop production for a while.

Not a Mustang, obviously, but my '03 Lincoln included this phrase on the window sticker:

JOB #2 ORDER

- Ray
Thinking Job#2 used to be when I taught night school . . .

I would assume its when the car is completely built. Started and finished on that date and shipped at a later date in batches to different parts of the country.

Is this correct?

I thought "Quality is Job 1"...

What would THAT make Job 2????

Just what the world needs... another comedian.

Exactly. It also includes all the line prep.

Seems like it would be costly and very inefficient to have a Job3, with line changes/halting the line etc, unless its low volume. i.e. the GT.
