updated: now with scans
I looked and searched, i did not see that anyone posted anything about the latest motor trend, i hope i'm right.
Anyways, sorry i don't have a scanner, but cover says: "Car of the Year. The toughest contest ever, and america builds the winner"
Picture is of a white 300C flanked by a torch red stang on its right and a dark blue vette on its left.
At the top of the cover, over "Motor Trend" is says "Bang for your buck: Why the Mustang GT Rules"
Anyways, for the COTY article, there isn't one big article like in the past. They've got a little section for each car. Not in alphabetical order, and the last three are the corvette, the mustang, and then a full article on the 300. Its not in order from worst to best though, the A6 which scored well is the first car, while the Kia Spectra is right in the middle. I think they just tried to put the cars in an order that would keep things interesting, and therefore they kept the big boys till the end, with the stang after the vette. The write up on the stang is pretty typical, nothing we haven't heard, they were a little down on the v6 though, there's that picture of the red fire gt doing a sweet burn out which i posted yesterday or so.
They score the cars out of 5 stars in 5 sections:
engineering: 3.5 for the stang
design: 4.5
interior: 4
performance: 4
value: 4.5
the vette got 4.5, 4, 3, 4.5, 4.5
so both the stang and vette got 20.5 out of 25. The new 911, got 21.5 (2.5 for value), everything else is lower down. (Kia amanti got 7.5 out of 25, lol.)
Elsewhere in the issue: "Bang for the Buck" -Mustang, SRT-4, R32, Evo RS, 350Z enthusiast, all under $30K. Mustang is first and foremost. "Cornering prowess is inspiring: the GT powers through the slalom at better than 65mph. Yes, the Mustang's live axle has been roundly criticized for being a blatant cost-cutting measure, but all those sniffy "Independent Rear Suspension" badges won't do other drivers much good when your GT is already leaving exhaust echoes around the next bend."
Elsewhere: "Freestyle vs Pacifica", freestyle wins! interesting:
weight to power ratio: Pacifica = 18.8 lb/hp, Freestyle = 20.7
0-60mph: Pacifica = 9.6 s, Freestyle = 9.2 s
Go CVT!

***Just noticed this in the article "American Muscle is Back":
"Work is progressing on the Mustang Cobra, which Ford SVT is set to introduce as a 2006 model, with an independent rear suspension and a supercharged 5.4-litre V-8. SVT's goal is rumored to be 500hp, enough to give the Z06 a run for its money.
They also mention the "on hold" lightning, and they say the next lightning is more likely to be based on the next ranger (since weight seemed to be the issue with the current F-150) which wont be out until 2010.
There's also a tiny little blurb and picture about the racer mustang, the white one with blue stripes.
I think that's just about everything mustang in this issue, unless you count the Tire Rack ad with a torch red GT sporting some pretty 19" wheels.

That's interesting that it might be based off the ranger platform. I remember a few years ago SVT made a testbed ranger platform just for the heck of it. I was going to buy one of these but ended up in a slightly used 99 ranger after they announced that it wasn't going to be released. Ahh well, that's all past history.

Please post the article!!! :worship: This is just the good news I've been waiting to hear for a while now! Did the writer get it from an inside source. do you know? I just hope that this info is credible and that it is not just one of those "the writer heard from someone who heard it from someone else" rumors cuz we all know that's how false info gets passed around and gets distorted.

that was pretty much all there was in the article about the cobra, the rest was about the cts-v super (blue devil engine, maybe?), corvette Z06... stuff like that.
The writer didn't give any reason to take what he said about the cobra with more authority than anything we've already heard, and he even said its gonna be an '06 model, while we're pretty sure at this point its gonna be an 07.

I had heard -from a couple of sources- that the SVT Cobra project was "greatly accellerated" after the Lightning project was put on hold. I wouldn't be shocked if this was an '06......I'm ready!!!

If the dealers here keep pushing back the date for when I can - that is - the date for when any of them will 'accept' an order for a 2005 GT, and you are right about the SVT coming out for the 2006 model year (next fall) then I will be putting off buying till then. As it is, I was expecting to trade in or the one i get now for one of the expected 2007 or 2008 special edition models (such as the hoped for bullitt or boss). Really hate to wait another 10+ months though ...

Ya they finally tests a manual GT. It ran 0-60 in 5.1 and 1/4 Mile in 13.5@103.6

What are the official MT Mach 1 and LS1 numbers to compare? Anyone know?

Am I missing something? The Dec. Issue I was sent has the new M5 and an AMG E55 on the cover, and includes the Sport Utility of the year. Are you talking the January issue. Mine says Dec. both inside and outside, and MT's website lists the Dec. issue as the same thing. I really want to be reading this new Mustang article but I can't find it in stores either.

The Special Editions will probably end up offering around 350 bhp or so, and be about $4-5K CDN more than the GT.
The above prices are educated guesses, but I'd be suprised if I was very far off.
