Dealership Paranoia
I live in the Northeast and am going to order a GT Coupe in Florida, where I travel for business often. I have established a good relationship with a dealership down there.
They said I can order the car and have Ford deliver it through my local dealership in Connecticut.
I gave my local dealership a chance and they said on several occasions that they cannot order it because they dont have "allocation". Furthermore , if they could they would have to charge me a premium for it. I worked out a deal for X-plan with the southern dealership.
My worry is that the car gets built, delivered to the Connecticut dealership and they pull some kind of shenanigan and sell out from under me to make a buck!!!
Can that happen?.. What can I do to insure it wont. The Florida dealership say they do it all the time.. but are they just trying to make a sale? Do I inform the local dealership? Do I camp out across the street and wait for the car carrier.. Its like a drama unfolding!!!
Please help!!!

If you are interested in a 3% over invoice or better in North Florida call Carl Thompson (352) 376-5371. He is the sales manager at Gainesville Ford. There were 6 or 7 GT coupes in stock a couple of days ago. He also accepts x-plan deals.
What you are talking about is having the FL dealer "drop ship" the car to your local CT dealer. In the past there was a $400-$500 charge for doing this. I haven't been in the loop for a year as far as ordering goes. It may be different now.
But anyway, the CT dealer can't even even look at the car without your permission because it is owned by you. A year ago there was a guy in the military who had his car drop shipped and that dealership owner took the car home, left crumbs everywhere inside the car and left his condo complex gate key inside the center console. I know the owner wasn't happy, I don't know what became of it. He wasn't supposed to drive the car,
It's up to you. I'd have the car drop shipped instead of putting 2000 miles on it. At $0.445 a mile (the 2006 IRS milage allowance) that's almost $900. It's a crummy way to break your engine in too.

It won't hurt the car to drive it home.
I had to buy mine in CA because the Utah dealers didn't have any allocation.
I ran into a huge problem with having to pay CA tax which cost me $460 more. But since I couldn't get it here I went ahead and did it.
If you buy from a bordering state there is a reciprocating tax deal. If not you will have to pay FL tax. If it isn't as much as CT your state will charge the difference, if it is more you won't have to pay your state anything.
I would contact the fleet manager at another CT dealer and arrange for a drop ship. There is usually a minimal charge for that.
Good Luck

Why does it seem so many people are getting X-Plans...? Are there that many ford corporate employees on this forum? I work for a ford dealership and i don't get anything better than d-plan.

Try asking around on this site and others to see if someone has an x-plan they'd care to share. That's worked in the past for a few people on the forums. I'll bet you find one.
I say drop ship. It makes alot more sense for the car to be shipped from Flat Rock, MI to Connecticut than for it to be shipped from Flat Rock, MI to Florida and then be driven back up north to Connecticut. And a long steady speed interstate drive is NOT ideal for drivetrain breakin! That is what I would do if I were you.

Do what i did, fly down, buy it and drive it home.
It was a great trip home.

I believe ISELLFORD can sell cars at xplan, and can drop ship it as well. there have been several buyers here from the site, and nothing but good feedback is all i see.

Go over to Blue Oval News Forums and there is a specific thread set up for requesting X-Plan Pins from Employees on the site. I think they are still allocating Ford employees 8 x-plan pins a year now with a monetary incentive to hand them out.

The CT dealer cannot sell the car out from under you. All the title paperwork goes to the FL dealer as well as your money. You will just pick up the car through the local dealer.

You're probably confusing X with A plan. A plan is a lower price that Ford employees and immediate family get.
I was going to reorder (after carhauler incident) thru gary yeomans in daytona (carlos medina). Carlos said the car could be ordered/all paperwork arranged thru his dealership, and he arranges what they call in the business a 'courtesy delivery' at your local dealer- the car goes from plant directly to your dealer(dont get hauled thru florida) and accepting dealer usually charges 150-250 for courtesy delivery(all they do is 'prep'- pull off the plastic/look over for loose parts, scerw on the antenna, etc...)
I would have flown down/drove home. its Nice and sunny there...actually I probably woulda cruised around florida a couple days before heading north
ended up getting car locally(while I was in florida on vacation it arrived...how ironic)
