Thumbs up

I had my GT in for its first service and they are doing things like replacing the gas tank and replacing the Shaker 500 head unit which both had TSBs out about them. I also told them about my differential making noises and they said they ordered a damper to be put in to get rid of the noise. Does anyone know exactly what this damper is? Is it just insulation they put in the differential to insulate the noise?

I don't know about the 05's but the SN95 GT had a iron weight added to the differential. It was there to control harmonic frequency vibrations. I'm not sure how it would affect any noises you might be hearing.

The damper is part of the suspension - it attaches from the top of the differential to the body. it's like a horizontal shock absorber.

How would that stop the whining noise I hear? The sound seems to be coming from inside the differential.

that's a good question. I've seen some other posts about the whine and they replaced the gears.

I think I read a TSB in the TSB sticky about that. It'a tuned dampener or something placed in or along the diff or driveline to cancel out the noise.
