took my eyes off the road for half a second and everyone in front of me locked em up...long story short i slammed on the brakes (which are everything but completely shot at this point and needed replacement) but the pony just didn wanna stop (felt like brake fade after an hr of canyon driving when i slammed on em...didn even chirp and abs didn kick in).

anyways, i hit the POS in front of me at about 15mph, did extensive damage to the rear bumper and probly frame of the 1992 civic (probly totalled it cuz its only worth like 1500 anyway). he rear ended the guy in front of him, and so on, so me and 3 other cars involved total.

i called insurance and filed the claim saying brakes didn respond properly and the guy 3 cars up stopped suddenly when he was supposed to go thru the green light, but ultimately it is still my fault.

no airbags went off, and i am PROUD of this pony for how well it stood up in the crash. still dont have an estimate, but i can find no damage of any kind to anything but the front bumper, grill (fog lights even still work!), and hood (bent up about 6inches). i am estimating 3500-4500 to fix and paint, and probly get a saleen hood and street scene bumper or sumn along those lines int he process (heck, maybe a ducktail too depending on how much the estimate is and how cheap i can actually get it done for).

so i can def say rims/tires/brakes/headers/exhaust are going to wait until at least the summer now, maybe longer if my insurance goes over 5k a yr (its at 3750 now)

and GOOD-FLIPPIN-BYE to my perfect driving record...still got no tix in 3.5 yrs tho

for the 1st year I had my car I was paying out 3700 for insurance through the most affordable carrier in the country. I had two speeding tickets on my record from 2 years ago, 22 years old, "fast car" and single.

This year, Im paying out 2100 cause one of the tickets finally came off my 3 year record. When I renew next year the last ticket will come off and I expect it to drop to at least 75% of that 2100. Watch your speed, keep your distance and just be a better driver and you can put that money that would have gone to insurance to more important things.

You hit at 15 MPH and that pushed the car into the car in front of it and that car hit the car in front of it causing damage to 4 cars (your Mustang and the 3 cars in front of it)?

Sounds like you hit a lot harder than 15mph...

Depends how hard the driver in font was on thier brakes. 15mph is a pretty big hit with 3500lbs. But the driver was following too closely to start with. Good think he(or the person in front of him) wasn't on a bike, could of killed somebody.

I was wondering the same thing about the Civic hitting the car in front of them. They must have got startled and took their foot off the brake when you hit them... or the civic was a stick and was in neutral. And I'm surprised your airbag didn't go off. A while back some idiot pulled out in front of me and I t-boned him going aboutb 15 mph and my airbag went off.

Also, make sure the shop you take it to checks the frame. As slow as I was going when I got in my wreck, my frame was still bent a little bit. There are two rails that stick out to hold the front bumper. They are easily bent. If your front bumper was damaged, there is a good chance those rails were bent. And you may not be able to see it yourself. They need to take the measurements.

Sorry to hear about the wreck though. You are in the same boat I was in. I still don't have my car back... a month and a half later. And it won't be ready for another 3 weeks. Hope you can get yours done a lot quicker.

acadian,
the impact was such that neither fender was damaged in any way, and it was at 10mph tops. bumper is still in place and isn even bent or torn out of shape, just scraped badly (who probly less than it looks, as most is smudges that can buff out. the grill is fine but popped out (and the snap-in brackets probly broken). the main damage was because i went under the civic and my hood hit his trailer hitch or some piece of metal frame sticking straight out.

i am very proud of how the stang held up for the most part. it is getting estimated as we speak and they will check frame and alignment issues. im hoping estimate is ~4k, cuz then i can get my hood, bumper, grill, ducktail, louvers, and a paint job on all of them after paying 1000 deductible

and screw that no good chick in the car 3 cars up from me that decided not to go thru the GREEN light...immigrants without insurance (/rant)

Sorry to hear it. If this'll make you feel any better about insurance payments, there's a loser out here who said his parents pay over $5k/yr. insurance for his sorry a--. (Statement to police officer from copy of traffic citation).
Just be patient and use the down time to plan your mods.
