I got some hood struts off Ebay and needless to say I'm disappointed with them. They have a horrible way of fastening the hood bracket and every time I close the hood the bracket moves. I was supplied with some double faced tape to secure the bracket and that's a joke. Also - the way the strut mounts it is not long enough to open the hood fully. I'm gonna send them back if possible.

 

That is an accident waiting to happen, especially if they move when you open/close the hood. I would fear a sprung/bent hood.

 

Yup, definitely take them off asap

Ahh wow! These are those "Pro-lifts" aren't they? Thanks for posting. I was considering them. But that bracket design is crap. Back to the CDC/MRT version!!

Just as an FYI, I've had these struts on my car for over a year and they've never moved, although I'd concede they could be a tad longer.

Have to give props to my MRT struts, zero problems or issues.

 

If those are Prolift, I've had a set on my car for almost 2 years now with no problems.

 

make them work. there's already holes in brackets... move hood brackets farther, drill holes and use rivets. there's no problem with the struts... the mounting is the problem.

I have to agree here... painless one-person install and great, reliable operation.

 

I got the CDC ones a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier.

 

I had these.....mine were junk too.....the hood bracket kept shifting, the hood didn't go up high enough, and mine started to bend in the middle. I switched to the polished redline tuning struts last week...they are awesome. If you start to open your hood about half way.....the struts take over and lift it the rest of the way.... now thats strong.

 

+2 My only issue was that one of the brackets wasn't bent enough so it hit one of the hood bolts when it closed. A couple seconds in the vise solved the problem.

 

I'm still on fence deciding which strut kit to install. If you want to make your setup to work, I've read you just need to add a lock washer to hood bracket (others claim this solved the bracket twist issue). You could also add a 'set screw' to your bracket and problem solved. I'm still deciding between redlines and MRT/CDCs. Redlines look cleaner... but you'll need to drill/rivet hood (doesn't seem to be a big deal). MRTs/CDCs are completely bolt on.. but some have run into the issue of hood misalignment (after loosening hood bracket bolts).

 

Dont forget Steeda has hood strut kits too, with a very nice machined aluminum bracket instead of a welded steel bracket. Lighter and stronger.

I could deal with the fact that I need to better secure the bracket, or that the struts themselves are too short, but both problems I should not have to face in a "bolt on" kit. Someone should've done their homework better when putting it together.

 

Went to Carlisle (All-Ford Nationals) a couple weekends back and had Automotive Essentials (Rockville,MD) install the CDC shaker assembly, hood struts and sequential tail light harnesses on my wife's 06 GT vert...VERY happy with the results!
