Has anyone had this problem? Months ago I noticed my fog lights were beginning to crack slightly and over time just got worse. I finally took my car back to the dealer today for warranty work on the alarm system, the aux port, oil change/fluid fill and the fog lights. I'm just hoping they don't try to pull some crap about them not being covered for whatever reason. Anyway, here are some pics of what they look like. I never changed out the stock bulbs so its definitely not from bulb heat.

I think there have been some other posts about this issue....

 

Weird, first I saw this on these fogs. Within weeks of having the car I covered the headlights and fogs with a clear-bra type of plastic to protect them from rocks. But these sure doesn't seem like it's from impact.

 

Those are cracks caused by heat. If you have not changed out your bulbs you should be covered no problem. Strange, this is the first I have seen like this without the person having changed out to super bright bulbs.

 

Considering this happened with my regular bulbs(and possibly the El Paso heat), i'm a little concerned about the Silverstar bulbs I bought. I changed out the headlights and not a single issue with them since day 1, but I don't want this issue to happen again.

 

Now you didnt change from a facory bulb I hope cause if you did & the other puts out more heat Too bad is what they ewill say if they are original & it looks like heat to me , I'd think they'd have to.

 

sorry I had to re read put regulars back in & lie i guess, just maybe there is an aftermarket cover that will take the heat ?

 

Antigini I have seen this before on here, but it was before I was a member, maybe some time last year. Your photos look almost the same as the other persons. And I shouldn't have said El Paso heat, those Mustangs in Arizona would all have this problem then. You got bad lenses. I'll need to look at mine more closely. They are in the attic as I put a Bullitt grille on a while back. But I too have the '07 GT/CS so they might have come off close to each other, who knows. I really don't remember anything like this.

One last question,

Do you drive with your fogs on alot? Cause I never did. I got tired of getting flashed with high beams.

 

I use my fogs all the time and i've noticed the lenses do get VERY hot.

GottaHaveIt - I never switched out the fog bulbs since I noticed the cracks before and decided to take it to the dealer before I installed them.

 

Do you clean them with ammonia based windex, I think that can cause the acrylic or polycarbonate to dry out and crack, I think. Again I'm just throwing out ideas, not trying to make it your fault.

 

Nope. I never use any sort of cleaner to do the lenses.

The dealer kept my car overnight again. Its been a depressing two days. They are going to replace my aux port under warranty and the service guy who was helping me said they're waiting on Ford to give the go ahead to replace the ENTIRE fog light assembly under warranty as well. Since it'll take a few days to get the parts in, i'll take it back later next week for them to replace everything.

 

I hope they change it. It would be the right thing for them to do. Best of luck to you.

 

Just got a call from the dealer. It was approved for replacement. Now I can go pick her up.

This happened to my headlite covers. It was from tint that I had on them

 

My fog light lenses did the same thing. I used my fogs constantly, and did get flashed quite often, so I put a vinyl cling tint on them for awhile. I'm not sure when they crazed, but I didn't notice it until after the tint was removed. The dealership did replace them, but not until after trying to tell me that I had used chemicals on them that caused the cracking. They never asked about tinting, and I didn't tell. Anyway, maybe not a great idea to tint the fogs...

 

Not a good idea to drive with them constantly switched on - if you want to do so, I'd think about putting in a lower wattage bulb rather than brighter ones - these lights are designed for short-term use only...i.e. in fog.

I don't know about the various State's legislation regarding fog-lights over there, but in Europe if you have fogs on and it's not foggy, you'll be pulled over by the cops and fined quite heavily as it constitutes a hazard to other road users...
