Whats going on there, mustang brothers...sisters? ......Anyhow, good story. Last night, i was leaving work in my Black GT, and I pulled up to the light , and this guy in his c5 rolls down his window and goes .......SOB, I should have waited, I was like .....patience is a virtue. Anyhow it was great. Anyone else feel like F-body's are getting jealouse?

 

Great story! I'm suprised a C5 owner would admit to that.

 

Getting, they've been jealous....

I quick scan of the f-body faithful and most seem to chant the same thing, "theres gonna be an 07 camao and its gotta beat the mustang."

Okay lets disect this

1. "Yeah the new mustang is way too retro, its gonna bomb just like the t-bird and beetle." - Typical mindset for this crowd, it seems like all chevy guys want each new generation to be radically styled compared to the last (could be a camaro signature?? eg; 67-69, 70-81, 82-92, 93 - RIP). Anything that might draw on past heritage in a modern form is taboo and is doomed to failure.

2. "I can't wait till the 07 camaro comes out (I know its gonna happen cause the gag order and so much reliable stuff on the net)" - Gag order due to union negotiations? I guess?? and it must be true cause I heard it on the net. There seem to be two insider GM camps, A- keep the faith brothers and B- trust me I work with advanced products and we aint got no mules (which illicits, BS, they engineered the C6 vette in like 6 months)

3. "I hope GM doesn't screw the 07 camaro up, its gotta be totally restyled with some minute influences to the past." - See 1, as for past influences they probably are refering to nice little Z/28 badges at the most, or no more in the past tham the 92 to RIP cars.

4. "It has to have an IRS and at least a 400hp 6.0 in it", Corvette envy and an unrealisitc perception that this will be affordable on any front (GM may be able to get a sub 30k car out the door with IRS and an LS1, but 400hp and IRS, I doubt it. Not to mention insurance costs. Then again they are still reeling for the 03 Cobra smackdown which forced the f-body faithful to remeber the dark days of 82 to 91.

5. "and be under 30k in price. otherwise I'm gonna get an...insert car here..." - I would say your probably gonna get another car (most likely a mustang)

 

All that you mentioned about the camaro is great but it will not beat the price of the GT, and the Cobra will kill that hunk of junk called a Camaro. If GM was smart they would only bring back the Firebird and then make a retro style Chevelle, but they are not.

 

If they bring anything back, it will be the Camaro and not the Firebird ... Pontiac is trying to move up-market (I think a large mistake on their part, but whatever) and won't revive their muscle-car. It should tell you something that the GTO is their idea of the ideal sports car.

 

The way I read it first was that he called you a SOB .... Doh !!

Well in all honesty, his C5 was pretty sweet. black,t-tops. I dont know why he said he should have waited, cause all though im all mustang ........the c5 will rip me a new one any day.
