I read a post by another vert owner that his window was separating too. The dealer told him that Ford reportedly had a bad batch of adhesive and the "fix" is to replace the top like your dealer is doing. This person had the same build month as mine (03-05), but so far mine is holding up great (2k miles, lots of up/ down use).

One of the very reasons I do like them. I always preferred the notchback design to the fastback. The verts look more like the notchbacks. Plus, our back windows actually go up and down!!

So now we know of at least three cases. This could be a real issue. It turned very warm up here in SF Bay Area and after parking for a few hours with the back window toward the sun, a large section of the top separated from the window. Almost all of the top edge of the back window has separated and one side. It seems like once it gets going, it gets worse. Oh well...it isn't an issue when the top is down!

Sir you've made my day. My vert was made in March also. I'm glad it's just that and not an engineering defect. I guess I'll just have to wait, but I will escalate this very soon to at least get a delivery date for the new top.

I'm glad I checked back here, my window is now 80% separated from the outer part of the top. The inner side still looks fully glued. I'm bringing it to the dealer tomorrow. I'll let you guys know what happens. I'm sure its heat related, I'm in florida, as soon as it got warm out it started separating faster.
I hope I don't have to wait for a backordered top, its going to be a leaky problem with the afternoon T-storms.

I'm also getting my GT emblem installed, my GT came with the Mustang/horse emblem on the trunk, not the "GT". We've seen another GT vert in the area that had the mustang emblem too. Did they run out of GT emblems at some point?

Let us know what the dealer tells you about the top and how long for a replacement. This seems like a hugh fiasco, they must have made thousands of convertibles in March. The rainy season is over here in the Bay Area so that won't be an issue for me. Like yours, my window is still glued to the inside liner but I don't know what would happen if water got in there, and whether or not it would go to drain. In the least, it would soak your inner liner. As such, I can't take mine to a wash until it's fixed. Good luck.

I'll have to check mine when I head out after work. But I'm pretty sure my window is secure and the top folds itself to just below the very top of the headrests. (Between the headrests you can see under the top.)

Something you might want to try is to make sure the handles are in the up position and not clicked down.

I leave mine down, but I looked and noticed that they JUST touch the fabric. If your fabric is folding slightly differently, they may be catching and holding the top up higher than normal.

Oh great, so heat seems to be the trigger. Well mine hasn't seen much heat since I got it, so I may have to face this yet. I can only think of one time it was parked in the sun for a sustained period, and it wasn't one of those super-hot Texas days like we will have very soon. I think I may be in the same boat since my car was made at the same time. I'll be keeping a CLOSE eye on it!

One would think that Ford could have afforded super glue.

Well the dealer said they ordered a whole new top with glass already glued, but she wasn't sure exactly. She said they gave it the highest level "Emergency Ordered", whatever that really means. She said she would call me tomorrow with an update and that it might here this weekend.
And my window is now completely separated from the outer part of the top. I'm glad I held on to my Integra because now I won't drive the Mustang unless there is absolutely no chance of rain. Hopefully it less than 2 weeks.

My top has separated from the rear window a bit. Might have been that way since day one, but I've had the top down ~90% of the time and hadn't noticed. Its the outside bottom of the glass. Here is a photo. (Note the great reflection on my rain-X'ed window, and Zaino'd trunk, that stuff is the bomb).

Also, word to the wise, don't put change in your door/map storage. It slips through the cracks and ends up in your door and rattling when you turn up the Shaker. I'm currently trying to figure out a way to get it out without taking the door apart. :bang:

The only other thing that I've had wrong is my rear/trunk emblem is not a GT. They said they will replace it when I bring the car in for its first service. I am assuming they will fix the rear window too.

Beside that, this car KICKS A_ S_ S

My god..... your car is unreal!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine was built in early march too. But no problems yet. No complaints with the top or anything. Let's keep it that way!

Now that I have a convertible and see it all the time I actually prefer that to the fastback-type coupe look (which is what I originally ordered). It almost has a chopped top sort of look. They really do look different in person.

Yeah, that's what they told me, and we are now going on 4 weeks and still no top! All they can say is that it's on back order with no promise dates. They were going to try to order it again in the hope a promise date is given. I can sympathize with the dealer since it's FORD that's jerking them around. This is getting old. (And it's a good thing I've got my Accord for when/if it rains.)

Does anyone know how to contact a regional service rep to escalate this? I live in the SF Bay Area.

No top problems yet thank goodness.... and these tops are NOT vinyl. They are coated fabric according to the tops manufacturer specs. I highly recommend Ragg Top cleaner and protectant, which is also recommended by the manufacturer for them! I used it on my last one and at 5 years old... the top still looked great! I parked next to one identical to mine and her top was grey instead of black... She came out and asked if my top had ever seen the sun and couldn't believe that it sit out in the sun most all the time.

Yeah, I use 303 Aerospace Protectant. It is supposed to be almost 100% UV protectant. I love the stuff. I have used it on leather, plastic, vinyl, etc. forever, and it keeps it looking great.

Cool! I've never tried that kind. I researched the material manufacturer for the 2000 and found what they recommended and have used it since. They are the same manufacturer for the 05. You have to put something on there good or else you'll have a ratty looking top pretty quick particularly if it gets much sun exposure. The lady I was next to a few mths ago, said she used some type of vinyl protectant on hers but it obviously wasn't worth a darn. I know my top beads up just like the paint with this stuff on there!

Hmmm, it was my understanding that the tops are vinyl, so I used 303 for vinyl, not fabric. Would the fabric one be better??? The data I got was from a vendor of 303 to allow the user to choose the correct product.

I stand totally corrected! My salesman obviously didn't know what he was talking about.... as when I searched for it I looked for what he said... Haartz Fabric. SORRY! I went to autogeek.com and looked up the top and its a Haartz Sailcloth Vinyl. :bang:
