Took the family on a 3000 mile road trip to visit my brother in Colorado. Averaged 22 mpg, and the Pony performed perfectly. We visited Estes Park, the Denver Zoo and Mt. Evans, which is the highest road in North America. I am not fond of heights, and it is much worse going up hill then down. Some thoughts on the trip:

Plan on a fill up every 300 miles, especially when cruising at 80 mph in the plains.

Made up mp3 CDs and they worked great in the Shaker. Not one skip and plenty of music to listen to while cruising through Nebraska. Remeber to mix up the albums a little. Even my wife thought 6 Beatle albums in a row was a little too much.

Above the tree line, they don't use guard rails, since the winter ice would rip them out anyway. Did I mention how wiiiiiide Mustangs are on a narrow mountain road.

Watch out for pesky mountain goats!

There is very little oxygen at 14,000 feet. Everything breathes hard (except the goats and sheep) and my Mom found out that a Bic lighter won't light either. It was also 50 degrees cooler on top of the mountain than in Denver.

After I bought it, I used a Meguiar's claybar and a Meguiar's polish and then several coats of NXT. Between washes I use NXT Spray detailer to get rid of the bugs on the nose, and periodically use spray NXT to touch up the polish job.

I wash with the MR Clean Autodry system and have been happy with it.

I am sooooo jealous! I have a job offer in Denver, and am so eager to be there, it's killing me, but I am currently the victim of a non-existent housing market and can't sell my home. My new office says they understand and will wait for me, but I sure was looking forward to a summer without humidity. Oh well. The car looks great, and I'm glad you had a great time. Is Estes Park beautiful, or what?

Some day when my stang comes in, I'll take her for a similar ride. Found some amazing places on the motorcycle by just taking it down a road, coming to intersections, then picking a random direction.

Sounds like a great trip! Glad to hear the Stang performed well. 22 MPG is great in a car that looks that good and drives that fast. My auto GT also gets 22 MPG highway, I just love it! BTW your car looks great!

We passed under the arch, but did not stop. We stayed in Omaha, so when we hit the arch we hadn't been on the road too long. Other great stops were the Amana Colonies in Amana, IA for dinner. my freind Scott's Brickyard Barn Inn Bed and Breakfast in Topeka, KS and we stopped for a Maid Rite in Ankney, IA. You have to live in Iowa to know what a Maid-Rite is, but they are awesome!

Rocky Mountian National Park is a great place to visit, I've been there 3 times.

I am planning a trip there next year with my Mustang. Then heeading up to the Black Hills and Badlands. It will probably turn out to be a 5000 mile trip.
