I have to take my car back for the second time to replace the strut mount bushings. I had it done about two months ago and everything was fine for a few weeks. Now I'm hearing it again so back to the dealer it will go. The last time the dealer ordered the parts and called me when they were in so I was only without my car for a few hours during my work day. Not too bad.

Do the cars now being shipped have this same issue or has it been corrected on the assy. line?

I contacted my dealer yesterday about this issue. (I have the same problem). Gave them the info that we all have posted here and they contacted Ford.

Talked with my service advisor today and they (engineers) are working on a fix . Current replacement strut mounts will not fix problem. (if yor dealer offers to replace them) Ford is working on replacing the strut mount with an updated part. I was told it was OK to continue driving. I'll post more info as I get it.

Cool, I figured I'd wait until there was an actual TSB on it. Look's to be the wise decision

Just took mine in for it's first oil change. I asked that they would please check my suspension up front and explained it sounded like a strut was bad. I had thought I've heard the popping but was unsure but figgured I'd tell them I heard it and have them checked just to put my mind at ease.

sure enough, the right side strut needs to be replaced but even though the left side looked ok they are replacing both. The mechanic said he had encountered this before (which I know they have but didn't want them to think I was just claiming a problem because I've read about it) and that he replaced only the bad side. Later the customer had to come in and have the other side replaced also so he suggested both at once.

So yes they are aware of the problem and even if you don't encounter it, I'd advise having them take a look if you get the time.

I thought about having them order me a new shaker 500 but ever since I ran the diagnostic thingy on it, been about a month now, I have had none of the problems I had previously, the skipping and shutting itself off ect. So I will wait on that until it starts to go hay wire again.

I had the clunking/popping sounds, so I took it in my car a few weeks ago. The dealer replaced the passenger side strut and upper strut mount bearing. The noise went away for a couple weeks, then started up mildly, and now it sounds about 10 times worse than it originally was. I'd wait to have anything done until Ford knows what the real fix is.

My GT Mustang was built 1/12/05 and it also has this popping noise in the front end. I waited until I could take a day off of work to have it and the Shaker 1000 "A" head unit looked at to validate my concerns. The Service Advisor seemed rather surprized when I told him of the strut bearing issue and a new Shaker "B" head unit being out. However, he wrote down exactly what I told him. About an hour after the vehicle went in, he came to me and much to his amazement I was correct. He ordered me a new "B" series Shaker 1000 and printed me an Oasis report on my vehicle. Here is what it said:

304000 - CHASSIS SUSPENSION SYSTEM

SPECIAL SERVICE MESSAGES

18461 2005 MUSTANG - POPPING NOISE - FRONT OF VEHICLE ON TURNS

2005 Mustang vehicles may exhibit a popping noise coming from the front of the vehicle in turns. Verify that noise is coming from the strut bearing or spring with chassis ears. Engineering is currently investigating. No repairs should be attempted at this time. Monitor Oasis for updates.

EFFECTIVE DATE: 3/10/05

THERE ARE NO TSBS FOR SYMPTOM ENTERED

The Service Advisor instructed me to call back in 30 days unless I heard from him first. He then thanked me for current information on his product.

Hey Todd---my WB GT Deluxe was built on the same day as yours---1/12/05 (you'd already know that if the signature police (NOT Brad or the mods) hadn't griped and "suggested" that we shorten our signatures containing too much "drivel" aka lines of helpful information---I suppose one man's hamburger is another man's steak; 31 flavors, and all those cliches).

OK, I got that out of my system now...

Thanks for the details . It pays to stay informed and one step ahead of your salesman / Service Advisor. Not the best situation, but it pays.

Please keep us posted.

Anyone who gets solid info on this problem please keep us updated asap.

It seems a LOT of folks are experiencing this particular issue. There will be a TSB as soon as Ford engineers a solution. Hopefully it is not a safety issue requiring a recall.

Keep us posted...thanks.

I just installed Steeda springs tonight and during the process one of the upper strut bearings came apart with little effort. The bearings were spaced in the race but are in no way held in position. If the two halves come apart during assembly the ***** will dislocate and possibly cause a poping sound. Just an idea to look out for if anyone is doing springs.

Mine has the popping when making hard turns too, just heard it do it last night. I'll just wait for a new messege or TSB to come out, I have easy access to Oasis from home or work.

Todd, can you tell me who your dealer is in the Lakeland area that gave you the information on the front end noises? Two dealers in the Orlando area are so uniformed they don't know if it's raining or sunshining outside. Ford customer Services doesn't have a clue either today when I called them. I've been to 2 different dealers three times with the problem. All they do is say they can't reproduce the problem, or they tell me they tightened some bolts. The car still pops. Ford Customer Service asked me when the problems occurs. My reply to them was, "When I drive it!" Thanks.

My dealer is in Orlando - Greenway Ford. Let's just say "I have nothing good to say about Lakeland Ford!" I drove 70 miles to a real dealer. Keep in mind until Friday AM Greenway Ford was not even aware of the front end problem or Shaker update. They are now.

Do you think a Steeda Billit strut tower brace would correct the popping / clunking problem? It tightens up the front end, really finishes / caps off the top of the strut towers under the hood nicely, and looks really cool. Costs about $250.
