Anyone done the Cervinis Tail light conversion yet? wondering what you think so far? I was concerned that you cannot replace the individual bulbs should they burn out. ( I know LED last a long time) Also wondering if anyone has dealt with the rear fake gas cap by covering it up or doing something else with it? I have a Parnelli Jones rear bumper and it does not have a license plate spot, and I was thinking of putting a fold down plate over the fake gas cap spot...wondering if anyone has done anything like this? also was it as easy as the video to install? I've got them and the install was a simple plug and play on a standard GT bumper. I guess you could figure out a way to put your tag over the hole for the gas cap.

I was thinking about the Shellby LED Cervinins conversion lights, like Steve's They look good on the Yellow and most other colors, But not sure about the Torch red? seems out of place for some reason? I was wondering if there is enough room to put the license plate on a flip down bracket or solid bracket between the lights? as I have the Parnelli Jones bumper to go on the car also, so it would give it a low wide look without the plate in the bumper, as the car is lowered also. Was it a snap to put on? the video makes it look easy, but thats not how things usually go for me! Just wondering! Right now I have the Fake cap delete panel also with stock lights and the black dividers over the lights which are sequential LED...Thanks for the input guy's, victor

 

I was also thinking I would reroute the gas tank filler hose to come out the rear where the fake cap is? I also have a Le-mans flip top cobra billet aluminum cap I could use in that location? but not sure what the NYS law says about a rear cap? The Guys at Custom auto Image would not relocate it to the rear pannel, as they said it was against the law? since the Pinto problems? Is this true for aftermarket changes too? or just original manufacturers? I think it would be so cool there, but having a hard time getting some one to do the change. What do you guy's say? I have the cobra cap at the stock cap location now, but sticks out quite a bit. It is an air tight cap so that's cool.

 

I'm in the midst of doing exactly the conversion you're talking about: Cervini's light setup on a car with the Saleen PJ/Gurney/Heritage bumper. Torch Red car too..., so I guess I can provide some insight.

There is more than enough enough room left/right and top bottom to mount the plate.

I have a plan for mounting/lighting the plate, which will preserve the cap mounting area on the cervinis panel, and should still look clean.

As far as the other idea of moving the fuel fill to the rear (ala the old Mustangs), How is that going to work? The fake cap area opens with the trunk. Are you planning to have 4-5 feet of fuel hose coiled in the trunk, or have a metal working genius fabricate a lower trunk panel half that's welded to the sides of the tailight area, and a trunk lid that ends going straight across over the tailights? And definitely illegal too.

And yeah, Cervinis *should* indeed produce a center section with the plate mount. One of their own rear bumpers (the Stalker) also requires plate relocation same as the Saleen.

For the gasp cap, I was thinking of having a body custom shop cut half a circle out of the top of the fender and half out of the trunk lid so as to solidly mount the billet le-mans type cap topside of where it is now. the flip top cap would have to have a "gutter" system built below the trunk level, and a tube to drain water and spillage. this wouldn't take much room from the truck area, and wouldn't need much different routing of the filler hose from the stock location. I was thinking of the Ford GT40 gas cap system, but placing it in the rear? I could even cut and weld the trunk lid so as to make it asymmetrical, so the drivers side is shorter, so as to make a wide enough deck to just mount the cap without all the gutter system? There is just not enough room to mount this type flip top gas cap on the top of the stock quarter panel, body massaging is necessary. I have seen older Vetts with this type flip top cap put on on the rear top deck, it looks really good! The cobra kit cars have this type gas filler too, but the entire body fits over the cap, the body can be removed without removing the cap or tank. A lot of older british cars had them too. Me personally don't see this as a major undertaking, Hey it's only money? all I have to do is get it?

 

IMO putting the plate in the middle of the lights really looks sweet. I think as it comes, it looks to aftermarket. Hope to see the finished product soon!

 

that's a lot of custom fab work. Does the Mustang really have the hips for it, like the original Charger R/T does?


Even the original Shelby Daytona coupe, which had some serious haunches, didn't have a totally horizontal gas cap



If you want to do something different, I could see mounting it on the upper quarter of the fender like the challenger:

I have the flip top Le-mans cap where the stock cap was on the side, look's OK, But could be better. I had a custom made collar to fit the stock opening out of billet amuminum, and have a fill through the cap gas cap under ther flip top. I'd like to post pictures? but can't seem to figure out how? do I have to pay for this privilege? How do I get a URL for pictures in my photo's? The new Mustangs don't have the room as they sit stock, theta's why I said I would like to cut out the horse shoe piece out of the trunk top edge where it meets the quarter, and have the trunk lid fit around the custom fit cap, to make it more like the charger posted above, or the Daytona. I have two Cobra/ Le-mans caps, one has a two inch hose, the other is wide open mouth, both are air tight lids, so they are good to go as is, no leaks, no venting. I even have an extra trunk to practice on. Anyway if you could tell me how to post pictures it would go a long way in describing and showing what I'd like to do, Thank's, victor
