Center Console Question

Has anybody noticed the area in the bottom of the center console lid? The one with the 2 clips to hold something? I'm not sure it this is just an '06 feature as I did not notice this on the '05 I rented.
The space is too small for CD's and these cars don't come with cassette players. Sunglasses, garage door openers (I tried both)? My wallet did fit somewhat
