Car wash ate my antenna...good replacements?

Like the title says, on one end of the car wash I had an antenna, on the other side...not so much. I know there are shorty antennas out there, but are any of the offerings better than others?

Has anyone gotten better/worse radio reception with one? Thanks

I went with 14" and my reception is the same. Basically matches the height of the roof line and looks better IMHO. If you want a stocker I've got it. I'll send it to you, you pay freight.

But you have to promise to stay the heck away from car washes though.

I bought my 8" shorty from americanmuscle within the first month I owned the car (Dec 2005.. man.. has it really been that long?). However, I rarely listen to the radio (almost always SIRIUS) but the times I have I didn't notice reception loss. I imagine that if the you're in a strong signal area it's fine but if you just off the beaten path you might not get the same reception. It's still one of my favorite cheap mods and still looks great. $20.

Looking at the socket, it didn't break off, it was unscrewed. I'm headed back to the car wash to get to the bottom of this.

OK, I'm back. Turns out they DID unscrew it, but they put it on the dash to keep it from breaking off. It had slid so far forward I never would have seen it if they hadn't pointed out for me. <whew> I go to these guys for precisely this reason. They're really good and they really do care about nice cars. At least I go to them during the winter. My HOA shuts off the hoses in winter to keep the pipes from bursting. During the summer, I wash my car myself. I'd have it no other way if I could help it. But alas, this car is my only car and I need to keep my baby clean, ESPECIALLY in the winter with all the salt they're dumping this year.

That said, Gary, I appreciate it but in the winter, I've got little choice.

I still want a shorty antenna. The more I look at it, the more ridiculous the stocker looks. Probably the 14" is what I'll go with. There are few stations I listen to that are at the edge of clear reception, even with the stock antenna. That and the 8" looks a little funny to me from the pics on americanmuscle.com Seems too small, but still better than stock.

+ 1 on the 8" shorty from American Muscle, I always remove my antenna before any wash

I just take mine off. Everyone always tells me it got stolen. Reception is fine, but I hardly listen to the radio.

Save yourself a few bucks and just shorten your stocker using this procedure http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/antenna1.htm

I shortened mine to ~15 inches, which is right at the roof line and had no impact to reception.

Michael, did you get one of the flexible rubber ones? If so, I'd be interested in seeing some pics. My shorty from AM snapped off when putting the car cover on my Stang this winter and I'm hesitant to replace it with another one, since it snapped so easily.

OK, thanks though. I'm just hoping to find something that won't break so quickly like my last one did.

I got one from AM. The first time I took it through the carwash, it bent. Went back to the original.
