Can you put a Shaker 500 in place of Shaker 1000?

I just bought an 05 V6 automatic coupe with the Shaker 1000 stereo. After disconnecting the battery to swap out the steering wheel, the Shaker 1000 stopped working. You can set the clock and load/unload CDs, but that's all it will do.

I have a friend that has a Shaker 500 head unit he will give me. Does anyone know if it is "plug & play" in a car that came with the Shaker 1000 from the factory? I'm sure the subwoofer in the trunk won't work, but what about the other amps?

I'm planning to fix up this car and sell it, so I don't want to put much money into it. I appreciate the help! Bob

I think the HU's are the same. As long as the Rear Sub plug on the back of the HU has pins installed (I hear some don't) then the rear subs should work. I think the Shaker 1000 has the capability of turning the rear sub off though .. right?

Yes it does. Can anyone confirm that the Shaker 500 will work in a Shaker 1000 car?

I'm not sure what the trunk subs will do, since the HU should have an ON/OFF for them. It's been a while since I've had my HU replaced, but I recall the dealer saying that they had to "program" the new HU before it would work.

you can find the stock HUs if you keep looking. Or just install an aftermarket unit, better sound, more options etc... Should only take about 30 mins to try it out. I know the 1000 has three plugs for it. You can also jumper the outputs for the door subs to run the trunk subs.
