Cabin Air Filter - problem (pic)
2 Attachment(s)
I bought a FP-53 cabin air filter (parts dealer said it was for 05-up GTs) and noticed that it was bent in this manner.
Do I re-use the plastic frame? Is this bend a problem or should I try to flex it out or return it? I think I'll go with another vendor (ATP or Bosch or whatever) instead of Motorcraft... The quality is very shoddy. |
Just replaced mine yesterday. You need to use the frame holding the current one. IMO the frame will "straighten" the filter out.
|
Reuse the frame and yes the fins are crunched. I'd just see how well you can straighten them back out.

We have a cabin air filter?!?!?
Paging Taco Bill, how do I change this? Mine is probably filthy as all h*ll!! |

There's a recent thread on this with some good instructions for changing out the filter. Don't remember exactly where, but search on cabin air filter and they will pop up. I've only got 8,000 miles on my GT, so I'll wait 'till 10,000 to change it out.
|
Metroplex: Didn't you just get your stang like a month ago? What are you doing changing the filter already? Just curious.
|
I had to buy some stuff from the parts dealer and wanted to pick up a few GT only goodies (fuel filter and cabin air filter) at the same time. I usually keep a small stash of replacement parts on hand.

Here is a link to the original post - http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showth...t=cabin+filter but the pic I posted is gone, so here it is again...
------- Here is a shot showing the filter (behind the battery). Easy to access. I removed the two fasteners and I am lifting the cowl vent up in the pic. Be careful when you remove the two fasteners since the plastic push-in retainers like to pop out when you lift the RH cowl vent. ------- |
what happens if you never change it? Does your car blow up due to the over whelming smell of spicy wing farts??
|
I heard that the cabin air filter is also useful in reducing the amount of contaminants or materials that may contact the heater core and evap core so it reduces the chances of a heater core blowout.

Ford's scheduled maintenance guide says 15k miles or 1 year for either the fuel filter or cabin air filter! :)

No, because at the time I took the pic, the car only had a few hundred miles on it.
And since it is a "fun" car for summer use, I don't use the heater at all and I have only had the A/C on a few times. So in my case, I would expect it to last many years... |

I knew we had one, and I think I bookmarked another member's 'step by step' on how to replace it.

You should check yours out, Daryl. I know you went thru a few dust bowls early this year. |

Pretty clean, but even it were dusty and dirty, I can't see it getting past the car cover.
