I'm buying mine, but I'm curious as to if everyone else is buying to keep the car, or leasing short term. Seems to me that a lot of people want to save theirs for many years to come.

I am buying, I don't like the fact that you don't actually own anything at the end of a lease.

Well it all depends on what lease options you take. You have to follow the incentives etc. Yes you own literally nothing but sometimes you can get a really good deal on a lease where with a low payout at the end you own the vehicle. My 2004 explorer sport track is leased over 48 months at 576.00 dollars for a total of 27,648.00. Payout is about 8,000 dollars for a total of 35,648.00 Canadian. This for a vehicle with a MSRP of 43,000 Canadian. They just happend to have an excellent incentive for leasing these at the time and if I decide I dont want in 2 years I hock it for something else. No fuss, no muss.

It all depends on your lifestyle, your car retention and your purpose for the car. For people like me, who want a new car every year or two leasing makes more sense. If I get a good lease deal on a 2006 GT I will lease it and perhaps hock it in for a Cobra in a couple years. Personal preference and choice really comes into play.

u paid all that time to give it back to the dealer

You're missing EZ's point. Most leases give you the option to purchase the vehicle at the end of the lease. When that time comes, you can compare what your buyout is vs. what the market value of the car is.

If the buyout is less, you buy the car then sell it on the open market.

If it's almost a wash, you can just pay it and keep the car if you like it.

If it's more, you simply give the car back.

Yes you cannot mod the car, but there are solid reasons for leasing.

I agree with EZ. I've purchased six new cars over the years, and each time I ran the numbers. In my case only once was leasing the better deal. It just so happended Ford Credit was running a lease special that worked out to a lower effective interest rate than I could get from either them or a credit union at the time on a purchase. This time I will be purchasing however. I plan on keeping my '05 (when it arrives) as long as I can keep it running, and am finally in a position to pay cash.

Bought mine, I think leasing is dumb when interest rates are decent.

When it comes to the taurus, you lease.

When it comes to the new redesigned retro Mustang GT, there is only one way to go . And no looking back -just full speed ahead and sign that John Hancock where it counts.

Wrap it up !

You lease expensive cars and go from there. If you can't buy a 30 grand car you should look into used. That is if it's a money issue.

I have been leasing ford trucks for around 10 years now. Leases on mustangs are never that good. I would rather lease a loaded f-150 4x4 for less.

I'll be buying my 05. This will be the first car I will purchase and keep. Everything else has been 2 year leases. I would like to purchase my next f-150 though. Those trucks are so awesome now.

Copy and paste or click link below for Dave Ramsey views on leass.

Dave Ramsey is the voice of financial wisdom in today's debt-ridden lifestyle. Find out why hundreds of thousands have changed their lives by listening to Dave...

Car leasing is a rip off for everyone but the dealer. The bottom line is you're buying a new car, paying a high interest rate on it and don't get to sell it when you're done. In essence you're renting.

Couple points from my post that people have missed. Not that its really that important because it's simply personal preference.

I effectively leased my 2004 explorer for less then buying because of the incentives at the time. INCLUDING the buy out I paid 35,000 and change on a vehicle with a 42,000 dollar Canadian MSRP. So yes you do own the car if you buy it out.

I'm not sure were the "no modding" comes from perhaps it's an american thing. The manager at my dealership has told me on numerous occasions to do whatever I want with the truck or my mustang. My 2000 has all kinds of mods some even done through the dealership. Yes it was a leased vehicle to begin with and is now owned.

Anyway, its a personal choice. Sometimes the lease actually comes in at less then straight financing. Depends on the time of year, the model and the incentives.
