So I walked out to my car to find a bolt stuck through the shoulder or corner of the tire tread. I'm not sure if a plug would be safe to put in there or not. Used the cheap plug stuff before with great results when a nail went through the tread before, but not on the shoulder.

So here's my dilema, I have been wanting to plus size but been holding off because the oem's are good tires and the rims are decent already but had planned to do so within a year. If I cannot have my tire fixed, I will obviously have to replace it, wich seems like a waste of money if I will be replacing them all eventually within a year.

So should I just bite the bullit and get new rims/tires or buy a new perelli replacement?

I guess I just want some peer pressure to make me feel better about dropping some cash on such frivality as new rims/tires on a new car.

I'm about 98% set on the Konig beyonds in 18", for tires Im undecided, I actually really like the perellis.

I don't think you are allowed to plug on the shoulder. I know you will not find a tire shop that will do this. You can look at your tire brochure in your owners manual and sometimes they will give you credit for first 12,000 miles or 1 year if you have a tire puncture.

If you want new rims and tires---------> go for it !! How's that?

Yup a nail or anything on the shoulder of the tire and it's irrepairable, out of luck. If you have sufficient fund now, then go for the upgrade with new rims and tires. I agree the Pirelli tires are good tires, but man do the stink in the rain.

I agree with everyone, they will not plug this. IT'S A SIGN, get the new wheels/tires.

unsafe repair like everyone else said.
On a personal note I have repaired mine on the shoulder. Not using a kit you buy in the store tho. Plug/patch done from the inside. again, you probly wont find a repair shop that will do this. Maybe if you offer to sign a waver.
Ive even had a Hot patch put on the sidewall and it lasted the life of the tire.

But this is a good enough excuse to buy the new stuff!

the stock tire cost me about 105. Imagine it retails for about 135 ish + tax balance, disposal, valve.
So youd save 150+ not buying a new tire.

I wish I would have used the same "omen" to tell me to upgrade. So as it stands after replacing a tire I busted a rim (topic in Ext. Mods section)... Maybe this time I'll get the message...

Well I feel very guilty, but today I put in an order for the konig beyonds 18X9.5 shod with Bf goodrich g-force t/a kdw2, 255/45-18's front 285/40-18's rear. They should be in by friday. I'm sure the guilt will go away once I put em on. May already have a buyer for my oem's also so that helps.

The Lord works in mysterious ways...................And he told you to get new wheels and tires. Who are you to argue with God?
Get some pics up when they come in. I was looking at the Koenigs myself but God hasn't graced me with a shoulder or sidewall puncture yet.

They can patch it from the inside. They do that all the time.

Sure, in the tread area, but what hes talking is the shoulder, which is unsafe, and most reputable places wont touch it.

Not plug, patch. Involves removing tire from rim and putting a patch, perfectly safe. That is the only "safe" way to fix a hole in a tire, dosen't include shoving a rasp through the belts of your tire.

I didn't think many tire stores in the states would do a shoulder repair anymore. Now this might be different in other parts of the country and certainly may be different with our neighbors to the north.

No one would repair it, went to 3 shops hoping I could save the tire.

Anyway got the new ones on, they look pretty nice. Happy with the way the rims look, not very flashy but fit the car really well. The rear end is going to take some time getting used to, didn't think the 285's would look so wide but they do.
