Well, I ordered the OEM Mobile Ease hands free kit.

What I do not know - and what I still cannot tell you after researching numerous sources - is where the microphone that picks up your voice is installed in the Mustang.

Nobody...not Ford, not the dealership...no-one has seen it, and no-one can answer this simple, obvious question. Isn't that extraordinary?

If I end up with a Larry King microphone glued to my dash, I'm gonna be seriously PO'd, lemmie tell ya.

I'm waiting for the answer to that one.... Hollywood, did you know that the mobile-ease is a dealer installed option? I'm considering the parrott from crutchfield, but I need to get more info on compatibility with the NAV and satelite radio..

It's not actually a dealer installed option. I found out from my sales manager that once the car comes out of the factory, Ford sends it to another Ford-related facility in Michigan to have the feature installed.

So I was told.

I checked the ordering guide and YOU are right... it says pre- installed option....I passed on that because I thought the price was too high and it wasn't "built in" looking. how about a pic when you get it.

I have both the Motorolla and the Mobile Ease intalled in my 02 and 06. I installed both myself. I had the Motorolla first since the mobile ease was not supposed to work with my 02 radio. Then I found the harness that will connect it to the radio and it worked. When I got the 06 I transfered the mobile ease to it and put the motorolla back in the 02. As far as what you see when they are installed they are very similar. Only the control pad is visible. My biggest complaints are with the motorolla's mic. Sometimes it doesn't pick up well and it can't be intergrated into the audio system like mobile ease. When I get home I can post some pics of each system. As far as installing the mobile ease system it doesn't have to be done by a dealer. If you can turn a socket and unplug and plug a harness you can intstall it yourself.

Oh god, if it looks like this, I want to cancel it right away. That's clunky.

My understanding is the Ford system is just a little hand fob (not much bigger than your car's remote - there used to be a picture on this site somewhere) with a few buttons on it and a cord that is somehow integrated into the lower center console area. But where is the microphone installed, above the rear view mirror? They say >>

Use simple voice commands to dial your Bluetooth-equipped wireless phone – hands free! Mobile-Ease mutes your vehicle’s audio system whenever you make or receive calls and provides hands-free communication using a microphone and the vehicle’s audio system. Once paired,Mobile-Ease automatically links with your Bluetooth-equipped wireless phone whenever you get in your vehicle.

It DOESN'T say anything about some nasty control pad stuck to your dash. If it comes with that ugly control unit, I will have the dealer rip it out right away!

This is a great example of where Ford falls down. There should be a simple picture showing this, and no confusion, or being referred to outside manufacturers when you call with a straightforward question about a straightforward feature.

EDIT: Actually, if we can't get a straight answer on this in the next 48 to 72 hours, I will call my dealer and instruct him to cancel the Mobile Ease feature. I can just get a Bluetooth earpiece for my phone. Boom - problem solved.

Its a dealer installed option which they install at the dealer. not only do they charge you for the mobilease but they charge for labor. The mcirophone goes left of the drivers side visor. I just ordered mine with out it... also the parrot has the harnesses that come right off the radio so im going to go with that one. I know you can use any kit, just wanted the harness to be used instead of cutting wires.

The parrot one looks the best so far. no unsightly dash attachment, just a small digital display on the visor. and no wire cutting. I STILL don't know if the harness will work with the NAV unit and satelite radio. I guess I'm just going to have to experiment myself when my GT/CS arrives March 11th.

UPDATE: I called my dealer and asked him to cancel the Mobile Ease feature. As my car is serialized and being built on March 5th, it may be too late, but he's going to call tomorrow and see if they can delete it; perhaps possible as it has to go to another facility in Michigan for the Mobile Ease install after it leaves the factory anyway.

I'm just not prepared to take a chance on this thing when Ford refuses to provide clear information about it up front.

Go back and re-read this thread carefully. It is NOT a dealer installed item. After your ordered car leaves the factory, it is sent to a subsidiary facility in Michigan where the Mobile Ease is installed. It is THEN shipped out to the dealer.

Sorry guys... but I suspect you're both wrong! It is neither a dealer installed item nor something that you have to have installed at some "subsidiary facility". Now maybe Ford installation is required in Canada but its not required in the U.S. I purchased my mobile ease kit from KC a year and a half ago and installed it myself. The Mobile Ease is an accessory that you purchase from a dealer... If its your preference you can pay someone else to install it or you can do it yourself.

Total installation time - 1 hour. Its a really straightforward install! I think the biggest challenges I had with the install were to decide where to put the keypad and microphones.

You all need to read page 7 and page 11 of the 07 Mustang ordering guide. It lists Mobile-ease as a genuine Ford accessory, pre installed.
and I quote "Note: Genuine Ford Accessories will be shipped(seperate from the vehicle) via VIN-Fulfillment to the ordering dealership for installation". This covers Mobile-ease, cargo net, remote start, splash guards etc. These require ship-thru codes and are limited production offerings. If anyone needs a copy of the ordering guide PM me or ask your dealer

Honestly, I don't know how to make my English any plainer. ALL factory ordered cars presently get the Mobile Ease unit installed at a subsidiary facility in Michigan before the cars are shipped out to the dealership.

Now, obviously, if you order the kit later - after you've taken delivery of your car - then you will either have to have the dealer install it, or install it yourself.

If you did not want Ford installing the kit ask the dealership to provide you the accessory kit uninstalled. All they have to do is order it through their parts department rather than through the factory.

Now if Ford is closing off the accessory market to their own dealerships then maybe thats not possible. But I don't think the management at Ford is that stupid...

Maybe they do it different in Canada..... the ordering guide says dealer installed... lets not get excited over it either way.... I just want to see a pic of the actual unit so I can see if I would allow it in my Mustang, Modile-ease units are for sale on ebay, so they must be phasing them out..
